I don’t suffer buyer’s remorse too often, but I do sometimes get non-buyer’s remorse. Last year, it was these Pucci boots. This year, it’s the poufy, tulle Oscar de la Renta gown I tried on at the Los Angeles store Decades in February.
That one has always nagged at me, and I was reminded of it when I saw the tulle Giambattista Valli mullet gown that Rihanna wore this week to the Hollywood premiere of the movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
I passed on the tulle dress at Decades in favor of another Oscar de la Renta. I was in love with the colors of this one.
That dress was cut so narrowly that, before buying it, I required an emergency consultation with Jean from Ghost Tailor about whether there was any possibility of alterations. Unfortunately, Jean said it couldn’t be done, and when a miracle worker like Jean says no, that is the final answer.
Now I keep thinking wistfully of the tulle, and more so this week. But the sane side of my brain keeps reminding me that no amount of tulle will make me look like Rihanna, so I’ll just move on. I do have my poufy Giambattista Valli jacket as consolation!
I spoke about buying that jacket (at a bargain price) in a YouTube video I posted last month. If you missed that one, check it out now.
Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel so that you don’t miss my next video. I usually post them on Wednesday, but this weekend I have a special one planned.

I have a few non-buyer’s remorse items: the $65 giant Persian rug in 1996 (I was so broke), the vintage Dior “new look” black coat with the nipped-in waist and huge skirt (1986, same, couldn’t afford the $125 price tag), the Dior blonde fur, full-length coat ($1,700) – that one had a receipt in the pocket from a cab in Vancouver from 1987. It was stunning, but couldn’t justify paying that for something I might have red paint thrown on!
I love that blue tulle dress, Wendy – it looks amazing on you! But let it go…it wasn’t meant to be!

Wow, you’ve seen some good pieces!
I agree that the blue tulle isn’t meant to be. Unless it comes with a guarantee that it will turn me into Rihanna. In that case, I must have it 😉
