What Wendy Wore: Ten Years Ago Today

Ten years ago today, I wore a Richard Tyler wedding gown, Stuart Weitzman shoes, a tiara and a veil.

At the wedding, my two youngest stepchildren walked our dog, the late Mr. Chubbs, and my parents’ dog, Molly, down the aisle …

Of course, I just had to know whether I could still fit into the dress. I put it on and gorgeous clothing designer Stacy Lomman took my picture in front of a supermarket, to the confusion of passersby. One woman said into her cellphone, “There’s a bride out here!”

I was so focused on getting a picture of the gown that I completely forgot about the white leather halter and hiphuggers I changed into near the end of the wedding reception.

I wore the leather outfit a second time for MrB’s surprise 60th birthday party in 2002, but I wouldn’t want to try it on again now. I need to do a few billion sit-ups before attempting that!

  18. So either I’m 10 years behind, or the ruching on the back of the dress (butt area) is still in / classic – my wedding dress has it! Everything else is very different than yours, which is, of course, a good thing, as your dress is fabulously you! (and hopefully mine is fabulously me – the post on it goes live on Monday). I have a long skirt that has the same effect in the back (Monique L’Huillier — I think im butchering her name oops!) … Hmm seeing you in your gown makes me want to find an occasion to wear it again! How interesting, I haven’t heard about Richard Tyler in ages (stop dipping into my past again Wendy! (; Heehee!) You just reminded me of a RT suit someone gave me; far too 80s (in that power suit 80s sort of way) and too big but lovely fabric. I need to restyle it for the autumn! New sewing project!
