I’m still not over Monday’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute ball! There are so many interesting looks that didn’t make it onto my Best Dressed/Wear What You Want awards list. One of those is Priyanka Chopra’s trenchcoat gown by Ralph Lauren.
I kept coming back to this one, thinking, “I would totally wear this,” and suddenly it hit me: I have worn this, in the form of a purple velvet trench gown by Zang Toi.
As you can see, the train on my gown doesn’t compare to Chopra’s train, which is okay, because even a small train is stressful to manage. When you have a spectacular, 10-foot train, you need at least one train handler, if not a whole team of them.
Because of the need for dress-related personnel, I’ve always dreamed of wearing a gown with a ginormous, removable train … and guess who lived my dream? It turns out Chopra’s train was detachable.
Laura Dern was another Met Gala attendee with a removable train on her Gabriela Hearst gown, but I’m focused on the trench-gown look right now. Let’s take one more look at Chopra’s Ralph Lauren.
Gorgeous! Even though it’s not purple velvet, I give this look an A+.

Your gown is way better than that beige thing. Gah, any colour but beige! Purple velvet is perfection, IMO.

I’m always in favor of a jewel tone, personally!

INO Wendy! I just read some of your blogs and was impressed with your style and commentary. I was especially fascinated with the Zang Toi hat you acquired. How can I get one?
I will keep following you and would like to send you a copy of my book. It’s a children’s book about a dog living at a senior residence in my home town! myrnashanker .com
