Back in July, I admired the mix of glen plaid and houndstooth filling the windows at Ferragamo’s 5th Avenue store, especially because I already own a similar look. My pieces are glen plaid, rather than houndstooth, but they have the right vibe.
By August, Lady Gaga was sporting the Ferragamo houndstooth look.
And this Thursday, the trend was covered by the New York Times.
I was pondering the sunglasses when I remembered that I already have vintage checked sunglasses. Again, not houndstooth, but black and white is black and white, as far as I’m concerned. Maybe I’ll try them with my plaid Versace dress.
I walked by the Ferragamo store last week and noticed that the windows had been changed. Only one piece of houndstooth was in the window. Personally, I would have left the houndstooth display up there longer to take advantage of all the interest.
Will you be wearing houndstooth or black-and-white plaid this fall? If you do, send a picture of yourself to me at wbjewelry at hotmail dot com.

Harmonic convergence! Will be sending a photo your way. Who knew. Black and white, plaid and houndstooth appear to be on the scene.
Patti @ NotDeadYet Style says
Sent you one. I want to see my picture on the cover of the . . . Rolling Stone?
WendyB says
Awesome, thanks!

Sent you some. It made me realise I don’t wear my houndstooth skirt nearly often enough!

Thanks!

it’s interesting that fashion has become about style, not newness, not la mode
houndstooth and plaids are so comfortable and familiar
freshened up as you wore it
just pretty

I love a good Glen…plaid or scotch.

Hi my dear-yes I agree, black and white as houndstooth or otherwise is a great look anyway, I will keep my eyes peeled for a suitable piece!

If you don’t find something for 99p, I’ll be shocked!

Houndstooth will forever be my favorite pattern. Always gorgeous! 🙂
Your pants? Amazing.
Off to email you a houndstooth look right now!

So wish I could find pics of my favourite outfit from v. early 70s: got my Mom to make for me a maxi shirt-dress out of two-tone purple houndstooth(mid-size checks) jersey; slimmish pants in the dark purple; hotpants (with optional button-on bib and straps) in the mauve. Generally wore the dress partially buttoned with wide (soft leather) cummerbund at waist. Wore it to London in ’71, felt very Carnaby Street for a provincial West Coast girl!
And if I could find the perfect houndstooth jacket right now, I’d snap it up in honour of that memory. Thanks for this post!

I’m so excited houndstooth is becoming a thing again – that means I get to find more items in stores! I’ve been obsessed with the pattern for years and have a LOT of houndstooth items – so yes, I’ll definitely be wearing them! Sent you a couple of pictures. 🙂
Rosie says
Well, that’s it! I really do have to do something with the black and white houndstooth skirt alteration I completely messed up years ago. I’ll send you a photo when I wear it 🙂

I don’t actually own any houndstooth, but I may have to jump on board! I’ll skip the Lady Gaga head-to-toe look, though, and go for a perfect-fitting pair of trousers like yours.
Megan Mae says
Oooh, I’ve tried to jump on the houndstooth bandwagon, but it never seemed like it was my thing. I do have a pair of black and white plaid pants. If it stays cool, I’ll pull ’em out for you, Wendy!

Ah I remember looking at my mom’s closet when I was little and petting her houndstooth jacket (dont ask me why). I actually REALLY like the matchy matchy look of it too…wonder if I can thrift myself a suit….
Pam @over50feeling40 says
I do not have any houndstooth, but I really like it. I do have the Glen Plaid…if I break down and buy some houndstooth, I will send a picture your way. I really like the windown display and agree with you that it should have been left up!

Houndstooth reminds me of the 80’s.
I love it!

I made myself some checked bell bottoms in the 1960s, had no idea I was ahead of my time :).
Those vintage checked sunglasses are adorable

Your pants look fab. I had an old vintage sixties houndstooth jacket that would’ve been perfect this fall – but I gave it to the charity shop!
One of my friends is looking for a houndstooth carpet – any ideas?
Snapshot Fashion says
houndstooth is my FAVORITE! and your pants are so fabulous!!!
The Styley says
I was just wearing a houndstooth jacket yesterday…before I read this piece. And now that I’ve read it, I’m convinced that the Times’ next street style theme will be houndstooth. Your pants are awesome.
