Before I quit the corporate world in February 2005, I wore a lot of suits. They were my weekday uniform. The ones I got between 2000 and 2005 were particularly nice, and I couldn’t bear to part with them. Recently, I’ve been making an effort to wear them. I took an Alexander McQueen skirt suit for a spin in May and then wore a McQueen pantsuit in June. Later that month, I picked out a Stella McCartney pantsuit to wear to a non-jewelry business meeting. I’m not sure when I last wore it; I’m guessing 2006.
What Wendy Wore to Look Somewhat Serious
Suit: Stella McCartney (pre-2005)
T-shirt: Splendid
Shoes: Prada (pre-2005)
Necklace: My own Memento Mori skull design
Manicure: “Captain Manhattan” by Tracylee Percival
Now my uniform is, as I’ve said before, a black t-shirt and jeans. Here’s a photo from my recent trip to London. It’s notable only because I’m wearing the first new pair of jeans I’ve bought since I got boyfriend jeans in 2008.

Speaking of jeans worn in London, I realized that during my recent visit with my London-based friend Al Radley, I wore the exact same pair of Acne jeans that I wore when I visited him in 2010. Here’s this year’s photo …

… and here’s last year’s photo, with Al’s friend Caroline and Al’s poodle.
Not only do I wear the same holiday outfits year after year, I wear the same casual outfits year after year! I’m proud to say that I did wash these jeans in between Al Radley meetings. I’m crazy that way. I wash my jeans once a year whether they need it or not. Don’t judge me.
And why not? Jeans plus black top works. I have the same uniform too. At the moment I really want those high waisted J Brand flared jeans. My next purchase methinks. You have inspired me to go there with your pic.
I TOTALLY didn’t expect to get those jeans. I went looking for a pair of brightly colored jeans (green or turquoise) and they were all jegging style. I thought they looked awful on me. Very Jersey Shore/try too hard. So just on a whim, I tried on flares, and I was like, “This is me!” The rise is also perfect for me. Big fan of this look except that it hides your shoes, but that means it’s good to wear with boring shoes!
I forgot about the shoe hiding bit! Dam. I have been thinking red jeans but I just can’t. My sister keeps saying ‘mutton’! I really like skinny jeans (not jegging, I associate that word with lycra footless tights with faux pockets and stitching..ewww)I am going to get those flares happening despite shoe masking properties!
I’m gonna fight your sister and say yes to red jeans, just in the right cut. I definitely found some colored jeans I liked, it was the cut that I didn’t approve of. But in the meantime TOTALLY go for the flares. I feel great in them! Just remember to wear your boring shoes!
This is also my favorite uniform. I love black and denim.
My capcha phrase is “btchplz”, and how appropriate, because BtchPlz! you look so sleek and chic. In a suit or jeans and a tee. I love the cut of the newer jeans.
Also keep an eye out, I thrifted not one, but two! pairs of red pants on Sunday (for 99p each if you can believe it). One linen trouser, the other skinny denim. =D
beautiful with great style. that pant suit makes you look like you run things.
Hi my dear-jeans are my favourites, whether they are coloured or flared or skinny, you look fabulous in yours!! Great to see you managed to hook up with Al Radley in London again this year! xxx
You always look great Wendy xx
I am in jeans most days, don’t tell the vintage crew x
i love that you brought out your old suits
i am pretty sure son1 wears the same thing for most events in his life like that
consitency is his key in life

You didn’t paint over the Captain Manhattan manicure then? Yay! I’ve often seen men wear colorful socks when in boring business suits to add a little personality. Super hero nails are your colorful socks!
Hey you stole my uniform (black tee and denim)! Or I stole yours. It’s all OK. I do want that pantsuit though.
Jeans are just so easy and practical to wear. I got rid of all my suits when I left the corporate world, so glad I did now!
I think it is so awesome that you can use the blog to see when you last wore outfits and compare the dates and times to see how you wore it the last time at the same event!! From my librarian standpoint, this proves the immaculateness of the internet!
New uniform… hands down!
Stella cut her trousers like no other and that suit still looks great, but I wonder how many others would know to wear it with that particular shade of red lipstick?
You and ENC wear jeans better than anyone else on the planet and that’s sayin’ something.
Well if the formula ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
That’s my uniform too – I live in jeans and a grey marl t-shirt.
Those flared jeans are super, you look great in them.
Love you in the wide-leg jeans! I also love wearing a suit jacket with jeans, that’s pretty much my work uniform when I can get away with jeans.
I want that trench!
If I had pantsuits that nice, I wouldn’t have parted with them either!
There really are people who NEVER wash their jeans! Is it just me, or is that disgusting?
I tell myself that it’s not disgusting 😉
but did Al notice? That is the question.
I’d say your uni will stand the test of time!
Wendy!
I love your new uniform. Although, I love Stella McCartney your uniform a la 2011 is classic, chic and comfortable. A win-win combination.
You’ve got great style! That Sonia Rykiel purse is everything.
xo
Love that you re-wear your clothing for holidays. Am thinking about wearing the same dress next year at the same conference I attended three years ago. . . Why not?!
