MrB and I went to the annual awards dinner for the Citizens Committee for New York City last night. Our dear friend Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel received a lifetime achievement award for her contributions to the arts. Former New York governor Mario Cuomo introduced Barbaralee, but MrB wouldn’t let me take a picture of him. MrB wouldn’t let me take a picture of Matthew Broderick either. Broderick was there to introduce Broadway theater producer Rocco Landesman, chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. Ferris Bueller‘s night out!
I finally wore the Zac Posen gown I got at Trudie Styler’s (aka Mrs. Sting’s) sale in London in 2008.
Superstylist Julie Matos did my hair in curls. Our friend Robert said it made me look like a 1920s Shanghai lady. I also wore the Stuart Weitzman shoes I got in November and my own jewelry, of course.
Damn, look at the Alexander McQueen jacket I passed up at Trudie’s sale because I was trying to be “good.” I have non-buyer’s regret far more often than I have buyer’s regret.
UPDATED TO ADD: See Bill Cunningham’s photos from the event here.
UPDATED AGAIN TO ADD: Good thing I have this blog to serve as my memory. I didn’t remember that I’d found a twin to this dress last year. Check it out here.

You look gorgeous!
You’re a vision in red!! Just beautiful.
You look absolutely gorgeous in red!
(But aren’t you cold outside without a wrap?)
But, did Matthew Broderick let you take a photo of MrB? You wear that dress better than Trudie my dear… divine.
Wendy you look like a movie star here! absolutely stunning!! Your hair was so short in those photos, talk about time warp

I’m going to say it again Yowza! Gorgeous!
nothing is WORSE than non-buyer’s regret!
Believe me I know only too well. Being a professional buyer helps you get over this though, when using someone else’s $$$
Big help indeed
Wendy B! You look amazing!
You are stunning in that dress!
Shame about the McQueen jacket, but you look absolutely stunning in the Posen gown.
Now I have that Lady in Red song stuck in my head…a fabulous look for you!
Look at you all gorgeous in your gown! Love those curls!
Oh the non-buyer’s regret is the worst. Especially when you drive back and it’s been sold. So sad.
You’re a knockout in red, lady. Also Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel is a real mouthful. I hope she has people call her Babs.
Gorgeous, darling WB!
Stunning color and cut ~ you look like a movie star!
xoxox,

Mrs. Brandes I wonder what your husband’s face looked like when he saw you?? Probably patted himself on the back for marrying you! ha
Super, super gorgeous! You look brilliant in red.
I saw Julie’s stamp on that hairstyle right away. You know how I feel about her!
Wowza you look stunning, I love your hair, so 40’s & glam!
You are looking gorgeous in red. xo Mish
wendy – you look absolutely beautiful!
Oh la la, WendyB is a hot broad! (Miss J is incorporating anti-spam words into her posts now- guess which word that is, crazy broad!) Fierce hair, bod and lips!
And “Ferris Bueller’s night out” made Miss J LOL.
You look fabulous in red and very glamorous in that dress — very much old hollywood glamour. Too bad about the McQueen that got away.
Sting might have got naked in the presence of that dress!!! (You look gorgeous.)
Gorgeous lady in red.
You look stunning Wendy from the curl in your hair to the detail in the tail of the dress and lets not forget the Wendy Brandes Jewelry of course 😉
you look SMASHING! absolutely fabulous!
Methinks this dress is happier in its new home. Love those curls!
As unfortunate as it is you didn’t snag the coat, I’m extremely intrigued by the “Dolce and Gabbana white crochet summer coat”. When will we see that?
wendy! you look like a 60’s glam goddess! red is your color! 🙂
Simply stunning! That shade of red is just divine on you, and I love your Shanghai curls!
A little bit of Gloria Estefan?
In the 80’s? I mean that in the nicest way, she’s a babe….
Beautiful red gown but here is my question: Why is it better to have a McQueen piece now that he’s dead?
It’s not better, SW. I loved it at the time and tried it on more than once. I talked myself out of it but seeing it again on Sharon’s post for the first time since 2008 reminded me how cool it was!
Beatiful.
Have you read the book Shanghai girls? I loved it!
Absolutely stunning. That dress is amazing on you. That colour! I cannot get over that colour.
Look at you all Old Hollywood! You look gorgeous and I love the hair this way.
Wow, you glow in this beautiful, radiant red wonder! What a lovely event… to dress up and party the eve away in NY… Paris bows down in admiration;)
