I always thought I was missing an old photo of the vintage Lillie Rubin dress that I wore to the Vanity Fair Oscar party on Feb. 28. While looking for a different picture, I found it! This is from May 2006.
I don’t know what event I wore it to that year. But I’m now quite sure that I got the dress from Decades when I was in L.A. for the Oscars in March 2006. That year, I wore a green Zang Toi gown with a matching peacock feather fan to the ceremony — where I lurked behind George Clooney — and the Vanity Fair party.
If I recall correctly, I planned to wear the Lillie Rubin to the 2007 Oscars, but then I found out that actress Gina Gershon had borrowed the same dress and worn it to an event before I bought it.
That bumped the dress off my Oscar list, and I wound up wearing a vintage Guy Laroche gown with a butt bow to the 2007 Oscars.
I’m amused that nine years after I decided the Lillie Rubin was too old to wear on Oscar night, I wore it on Oscar night. Too bad I didn’t bump into Gina Gershon this year! She might have done the same “ghost of dresses past” doubletake that I did recently when I saw my former right-hand woman Eryn Patton wearing a dress that I had given to her.
Here’s my official “Repeat Offender” collage of the Lillie Rubin.
That’s for the people who say you can’t wear a statement piece more than once!

What great progression!
