Texas senator Wendy Davis stood and spoke for nearly 11 hours on Tuesday — a filibuster that derailed an effort to pass a harsh anti-abortion bill in the state senate. During the filibuster, she couldn’t eat, sit or even lean, so she wore pink Mizuno Wave Rider 16 sneakers for comfort. Because my name is Wendy and I’ve written about sneakers in the past, I’ve been getting blog visitors who are searching for the other Wendy’s sneakers, so this is the information you’re looking for! (I like to help out.) If you want to buy the sneakers — and you would like to have a laugh at the same time — go to Amazon.com and check out the witty reviews before you make your purchase.
Davis married as a teenager, quickly divorced and wound up as a single mother. She put herself through college and ultimately graduated from Harvard Law School. Another Texas woman who married as a teen, divorced and wound up a single mother was model Anna Nicole Smith. She went to Playboy instead of college, married a billionaire 62 years her senior, got on drugs and reality television, then died tragically young. I missed the Lifetime movie about Anna Nicole that aired last night. It got some awful reviews but I want to see it anyway, just because I’m hypnotized by the creepy trailer scored with a slowed-down version of the song “Fame.”
If you’re freaked out by the vision of actress Agnes Bruckner as Anna Nicole in clown makeup, you’ll need a therapist appointment after you watch the clown-makeup footage of the real Anna Nicole. View at your own risk!

I’m intrigued to see the Anna Nicole movie as well… although the thing that keeps going through my head is that poor little girl has to live with the fact that her mother wasn’t strong enough to pull it together to be a mother to her. Suicide is always devastating for those left behind (we’re still in shock 3.5 years later after the close friends we lost to suicide within a few months of each other), and the ultimate loss for a parent to bear is that of a child. But I can’t look at a newborn child without seeing hope. Not being able to see that hope & struggle onward is a tragedy for both mother & child. I truly feel heartbroken for her & hope she has the support she will need throughout her life. XXX
PS okay that was a sappy “mumsy” view, but well I am one!

She didn’t intentionally kill herself, did Anna? Though her behavior was definitely suicidal. The father seems to be very committed to the kid so I hope that helps :-/

I think it was deemed suicide. I recall news saying she just couldn’t get past her son dying & grieving so deeply that they thought perhaps it was an accidental overdose, but then found she intentionally chose suicide. Of course it was such a sensational story, that I could have my wires crossed. I hope I’m wrong, it would be quite woeful to unintentionally OD leaving her newborn daughter. Yes, her father seems to have a good handle on her & she seems like a happy child (so cute too!) & it seems she’s getting loads of family love and interaction. I always feel for people who lose their parent/s early on, they always seem so sad later in life. I had a best friend met at 13 who at 35 got married & pregnant right away. While pregnant she found out she had a rare form of cancer (angio sarcoma — blood cancer) that the pregnancy actually slowed. But once the baby was born she only got a few mos. with her darling before the cancer overtook her. She has two good families taking extra care of her, but it broke my heart to not only lose my best, oldest friend at 35; but when I saw her daughter she is the spitting image of her mum, with the same joy of dance & a beautiful singing voice like her as well. Our friendship was such a wonderful series of happy accidents, when we met & then our parents met it was a crazy series of past events that led us to be in the same place. Another source of serendipity in my life! I do wonder if she too has that melancholy that I’ve seen in other friends, yet I pray she instead thinks of the legacy gotten from her mother… perhaps she’ll one day be “the next big thing” you’ll be courting! I was telling Stacy last night that I may soon legally be Jet Serendipity Kuhn. May just go the way of “common usage” using my legal name as needed (oy I hate paperwork!) It suits the course my life always winds up taking (: (I even considered for about 3 secs just Serendipity, but I want a wee name that suits my temperament.) XXX
PS Did Stacy tell you Gwensday gave us Death Metal names? She’s Ophelia DownStorm & I’m Jinx Jackhammer. I signed a note to her as that, then added “of Corpuscle” HAHAHA! Wanna be in the band? I’m sure she’ll come up with a doozy for you too! (;

I find your story very touching. So sorry that you lost your best friend. The thought of losing mine is too horrible to consider.

Thank you, that’s very kind of you. This happened nearly 20 years ago & I still dream of her & miss her terribly. XXX

Omigod, omigod, omigod! Poor Anna Nicole – you’re right, that tape is tragic and haunting, presumably after her son died? But her daughter does seem to have a lot of love from her dad.
But Wendy Davis is AH-MA-ZING! That news came pretty much the same day the Supreme Court ruled on same-sex marriage, and both stories gave me hope that the US isn’t completely overtaken by Fox-News-watching teabaggers (oh, does that have a naughty connotation? Too bad.).
