On Game of Thrones, the character of Daenerys Targaryen is known as the Mother of Dragons.

Here is the mother of my dragon — and other highly detailed/hidden treasure — jewelry designs. It’s a dragon-shaped bell that I got in the 1980s.

I wrote about this little critter in January:

” …. I found a man selling a silver bell shaped like a dragon. The artist told me it was a ‘happy dragon.’ I had to ask: why was it happy? ‘Because he had a really good knight,’ the guy said, turning the dragon over to show me the tiny knight-shaped bell clapper inside. I thought that was the cutest!thing!ever! I bought it, and you can see from my jewelry designs that the concept of hidden treasures left a huge impression on me.”

Here’s the knight inside the dragon.

His face is blank so he could be happy … or sad. Hard to say.

You can see the dragon bell’s influence in a lot of my work but the most recent example is my 18K-gold Jonah and the Whale Maneater ring. Here’s the diamond whale swimming in a sapphire sea on the outer part of the ring …

I found the dragon bell when I visited my parents’ house last month to clear out some of my childhood things. It was the No. 1 item on my wishlist, and I’m so thrilled to have it! My Empress Wu dragon earrings and ring can now spend quality time with their direct ancestor.

  1. We settled for Rodney Strong Red Zinfandel, some local Neufchatel and another local, very creamy chevre. And Triscuits.

Sorry to see it go, along with the Borgias, if only for the season.

The new ring is S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G!! I think Jonah is actually quite happy!

I’m a big A Song of Ice and Fire (and also Game of Thrones) fan. :)
