Never Is the Next New Thing™: Knickers Update II

Ever since knickers showed up on my Never is the Next New Thing™ radar, I’ve been keeping an eye out for more examples.

I already found a very wearable pair by J Brand. More recently, I noticed these Dolce & Gabbana pants from The Outnet. At first, I found the military details to be over the top, but after studying the pictures a little longer, I felt the love. If I were to come across these in a store, I would definitely try them on.

If you’re looking for something more low-key, gorgeous blogger Jacquelyn Joy found a good option at her place of work. (She’s a manager at a well-known, well-priced brand but not an official spokesperson, so I’m being a little vague about where to get these; feel free to ask her!) She and her colleagues have nicknamed these pants “snickers” — a cross between knickers and sweat pants. Jacquelyn’s super-sweet associate Stephanie volunteered to be a model.

OMG! Stephanie is wearing leopard shoes.

They look very comfortable, no?

  1. I am definitely pro-knickers and would definitely get some if I wasn’t on a buying-stuff hiatus. They have all the good parts of the harem pant trend (cinchy ankle/calf), but without the drop crotch. Don’t hold me to this, but I will NEVER wear drop crotch pants.

    • I passed on the dropped crotch look too. It looks great on some people, but just not something I am interested in. But don’t hold me to it 😉

    • Maddy, those snickers are VERY comfy! You can buy them at a major retailer (er, it rhymes with Bold Gravy and I’m sure there’s one near you) and they can be worn with anything from a tee to a sharp-shouldered blazer. The inside of the snickers is super soft.

  7. I was wandering round Buffalo Exchange last week in the bitter ennui that often surrounds me as Valentines day approaches, and on the half price rack was a pair of Miu Miu Knickers in tweed, with sweater knit cuffs. for 50% off their original price of $27.
    I had not known it before, but there in front of me was the ONLY THING that could cure my ennui.

    They claimed to be my size, so i hurried to the dressing room. Of course, they did not fit. The side pockets gaped. The buttons popped. My dream pants told me I was too fat.
    I put this in because i have always sworn knickers was a never till I saw these. Just the right amount of hideous to be intresting.

    In Australia, where I have seen No One (yet) wearing these, we’d refer to them a “Knickerbockers”.

    They were a huge hit here in 1984 and 1985. probably as a result of Princess Di getting about it them! K x

      I remember the Princess Di influence as well.

      We wanted hair like hers too! :-O

  13. Those Dolce&Gabanna ones are wicked! I have a pair of Bebe ones that channel those. . now, I am all thrilled to know they are actually called knickers. I can now wear knickers outside legitimately without channeling Superman.

  14. I like the knickers… and snickers. Strangely I’ve only seen this look on (very confident) men so far combined with knee high socks, going for that 17th century look. I do love the combo with the leopard flats…
