I just noticed that in her 2004 Play video, Jennifer Lopez wore both fingerless gloves and finger-only gloves — a couple of years before those looks became more widespread.

A five-finger half glove is currently sold out at Patricia Field.
Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld is a long-time wearer of fingerless gloves.
I can’t find any confirmation, but as I recall, at least one outfit in the Play video was by Chanel, which might explain JLo’s fashion-forward glove love. Admittedly, my memory could be playing tricks on me. I’m not even sure what I did yesterday. But it would be typical of me to correctly remember something worn by a celebrity in 2004 while totally forgetting the details of my own life.
If you’re the type who would rather wear a whole glove than a half glove, Vintage Textile has two stunning pairs from the 1940s.
The fringed pair is by Hermes, meaning $250 is a steal! You should consider getting them before I break down and buy them for myself.
Speaking of accessories, little round sunglasses like mine seem to be gaining momentum! I’m looking forward to seeing them on all the people who said they would never wear them.

I’m not a real glove girl (probably because it never really gets cold enough for them here so they only conjure up images of gyn exams and dishwashing for me). Those finger only gloves are just plain weird!

I think sometimes it looks very nice and adds a cool touch but it’s definately not a must-have for me.

I’m tempted. Terribly.

Half, full or fingeless – I have a glove fetish and a mitten one too!
Mind you, you need them on a cycle.
And how fashion forward are you!

I love those vintage Hermes gloves. But even if I could afford them I don’t know where the hell I’d wear them!

Those Hermès gloves are stunning. And you look so cute in your fingerless gloves! I had a pair of lace ones back in the 80’s and felt like Madonna in them. (The younger, plumper Madonna.)

I am a huge fan of gloves, especially the fingerless kind.

Those Hermes gloves are super cool! I love the fringe. I don’t wear sunglasses – a) they never flatter my somewhat horsey face and b) they give me a headache. However, I look forward to seeing the little round ones on other people.

My mom use to wear white knit fingerless gloves every day when she worked in the factory where they had to cut raw chicken. Who knew she was such a fashion maven?

$250 for Hermès? That is a steal!
It’s going to be 90 again today, so gloves don’t seem like a prudent purchase, but I can dream—of that top pair, in teal and tomato.

all cute options! urban outfitters also has a pair with a cute little bow embroidered on to add a bit of edge to the look.

You work the gloves much better than JLo and Paris. Work it girl!

The long blue and red pair make me think of Wonder Woman.
La Belette Rouge says
The 5 finger half glove sort of creeps me out. I am not sure why but I really hate it.

Fingerless gloves and finger only gloves are two things that make me go hmmmn. Gloves though, proper functioning gloves, are a different matter and I do believe i’d like to own the Hermes pair.

You are so far ahead of your time, Wendy, you’re in the FUTURE.

Only you can pull that off! I love the idea of wearing gloves but it never really works out.

I love the fingerless gloves at Chanel…It just WORKS with his looks. I hate how Paris looks so “contrived” in hers though…Yours are cozy and functional for NYC cold spells. It’s nice to be able to grab your lipstick, keys, subway ticket etc with the exposed fingertips. I like that functionality. No need for gloves here. No need for clothes here in fact, due to this heat spell!

…heard that Lagerfeld wears different colors f different occasions…red when he's working, black for something else & so on…wonder if it's just rumours???

I adore those from Pat Field…I spent days pondering about buying them when they were still available on her website, but the shipping costs to Italy could have been killed me!

Dear Ms B,
What a lovely selection you have presented especially those from Vintage Textile but my hands look scary in gloves – I have long and thin fingers which some might say are the right sort of fingers for flattering glove-wearing, as opposed to short stumpy ones, but they look so freaky when covered, I prefer mittens.
In the glasses (prescription, not sunnies) department, I’m still alternating between Emperor Puyi (90s Giorgio Armani round tortoiseshell given a new lease of life) and Sophia Loren (huge silver German vintage frames) which you said you loved but “don’t want to give in to age-related ocular failings”. Give in!

I remember those half-gloves in the J.Lo video. I thought Paris wore hers not too long after. I can’t think why I know this…
Love the 1940s gloves.
