When I was writing my post about Madonna’s ’80s lace-up booties, I had to do a lot of digging because every scrap of Madonna shoe information seemed to be about her pink Fluevogs in Truth or Dare. Despite all those references, I couldn’t find a photo. Then came Lady Miss Kier to the rescue! The Deee-Lite singer wore the same “Munster” shoe on the cover of World Clique.
Much to my deee-lite, Fluevog has reissued the Munsters.
To my deee-spair, they only come in full sizes and I’m a 6.5. I’ve emailed the Fluevog people for suggestions. Maybe a size 6 or a size 7 will work. If so, I WILL have these shoes. Then I can pretend I’m Lady Miss Kier. I love her. First of all, the name! Lady Miss! I want to be called Lady Miss WendyB. Second, I have coveted Kier’s space-age ’60s look from Groove is in the Heart since the video came out in 1990. The hair, the makeup, the clothes, the shoes, the jewelry … the face. I want it all.If a genie granted me three wishes, I’d seriously consider wishing to look like Lady Miss Kier in that video (right after I wished for world peace and a cure for cancer, of course).
If I could finagle a fourth wish, I’d get the Alexander McQueen boots on the cover of the Fall 2010 Bergdorf Goodman catalog.
These are a work of art. Unfortunately, they cost $3,995 which is expensive for boots … but, come to think of it, not too bad for art. A Picasso painting sold at a record auction price of $106.5 million this year and you can’t even wear it! Sheesh! If I’m going to spend $106.5 million on something, I want to be able to wear it out of the house so bitches can be jealous. The boots are starting to seem less and less expensive. WHERE IS THAT GENIE?!
Now that I put the McQueen price in perspective, I’m experiencing a surge in non-buyer’s remorse for missing out on Ferragamo’s reissue of its iconic rainbow wedge.
The shoe was created in 1938 for Julie Garland and was reproduced in a limited quantity this year. I’ve always drooled over this shoe in books, but I thought I shouldn’t spend $2,500 on a pair of shoes. But … but … this isn’t just a shoe. It’s art! And it was $106,497,500 less than a Picasso. I missed out on a total bargain.
UPDATED TO ADD: Gorgeous blogger Punk Glam Queen tracked down the thigh-high version of this boot. Behold!
Punk Glam Queen’s blog is Idee Fixe. Check her out.
UPDATED AGAIN TO ADD: Marian Kihogo posted even more spectacular McQueen boots. The black ones look too plain now.

That Alexander McQueen is crazy! Imagine the looks you’d get on the street! Priceless!

Indeed you did, Lady Miss Wendy B. GET THE ‘VOGS. Bitches will be jealous.
Eli says
two things,
Susie Bubble has these Fluevog type shoes in a silver that she wears once in a while
Ive gone nuts about those Ferragamo wedges too and seriously considered spending my moving away money on them. while I’m glad they didnt I keep hoping for an alternative. The closest I’ve gotten to it are the Kostas Murkudis for flip flop
http://www.kostasmurkudis.net/web/collaborations/collection/flipflop-murkudis/item/flipflop-murkudis-delos-naturel.html
I cant figure out who stocks them in store or online though, I remember them retailing about 400 last time I researched them. Better than 2500!

Fluevog, as you know, is based in Vancouver, so let me know if they prove unresponsive.

MSNBC featured a report today on art investment… one of the proponents pretty much guaranteed at least a 10% long term return (hmmm)…Sure, this debate was basically 4 against 1 (not favoring the art investor)but is it a sign you should go for it (or at least let that be you’re story and you’re sticking to it) : ) PS I believe the other message was to be sure to diversify… ahem.. so you’ll need to also invest in a bigger closet.
WendyB says
I like your reasoning.
Melissa says
I use that reasoning pretty often.. it hasn\’t completely come back to bite me yet… : ) Oh, and it was cnbc – I was losing my mind when I typed that as usual… or it was 4am! : )
ML says
These are so beautifully constructed it’ll be a shame to wear them!

Lady Miss WendyB! I too have admired Kier’s looks, though I Googled her recently and can honestly say you’ve aged at least as well if not a tiny bit better. And oh, Alexander McQueen! While mega-heels and platforms are not generally my deal (I’m 5’10” flat-footed), those McQueen’s are the shit. I wouldn’t mind being the jealous bitch, if I could just know someone who owned those shoes!
sharon rose says
Hi my dear-with this logic reasoning, you must certainly invest in the Fluevogs, the McQueens are just stunning too…..
Penny Dreadful Vintage says
Fluevog! These are maaaarvelous. Dee-lite was fab; I used to sing Groove Is In The Heart way back when I was in a disco covers band while at uni. Boy, was I cool *note sarcasm*
Chic 'n Cheap Living says
Brilliant logic – fashion as investment and it actually makes a lot of sense! The McQueens are totally collectible art!
Joy D. says
Dee-Lite for the win! Although if I here Groove is in the Heart at a dance party one more time I will have to heart someone.

I just saw the ferrigamo ones in Italy last week at a store called Corso Como. I bet they’d ship… 😉 just sayin.

Wendy, Fluevogs run notoriously irregular in their sizing. In the half dozen or so pairs I’ve bought, only 1-2 have run true to size. Otherwise, I usually go up a 1/2-full size. So you can probably wear them in the 7. I love the lilac version, even though I’d never wear them.
WendyB says
This is very helpful! Thanks so much. I love the lilac too. I’ll probably be dull and go for the black, though. I don’t have a big craving for lilac. Maybe they’ll come out with another interesting color.
Paulettew says
Ferragamo’s shoe is killer! I remember seeing the “Groove in the heart” video on Pop Up video on VH1 (I really miss that show) when I was younger. I thought it was cool video 🙂
Sally says
Cannot WAIT to see how you style the Munsters!
WendyB says
I hope you won’t be disappointed by my creative choice of jeans and a t-shirt!
Lara says
When I was about 11 years old, my mom & I were out shopping and I saw some psychedelic Pucci style leggings in the bigger girls’ section. I wanted to be like Deee-Lite sooooo badly! My mom got me smallest size and shrunk them in the dryer. I wore those things for at least a week straight!
These trips down memory lane are killing me!
I had some Munster rip-offs when I was a gothy teen! Ridiculous!
Suzanne aka Punk Glam Queen says
I was at McQueen yesterday and can attest to their beauty and artistry. They also do an over the knee style with the same heel — so HOT. You don’t know how much restraint I had to have to not try them on and hand over the card! I want them sooo bad! I want to wear them everyday! (I think I’d even sleep with them, yeah, that’s pretty sick…)

Haha I totally remember admiring what Lady Miss Kier wore in the Groove Is In The Heart video the first time I saw it too.
Tina says
Did I ever tell you about my Lady Miss Kier sighting at the Roxy years ago? As she was hurling?
WendyB says
What?! I think you better share this with the class!
Miss Janey says
The McQueen boots ARE fabulous but Miss J would need handlers to help her walk in something that high.
Tracie says
I love shoes! There isn’t anything about them that I don’t love. No matter what is happening in my life, if my pants go up or down in size…my shoes are always dependable.
Nickie Frye says
hahaha!!! You are so funny! If that genie comes, please send him my way when you are done with him. I need some art (shoes) too. LOVE the Fluevogs. OMIGosh! I remember when that silhouette was big in the 90’s & I don’t think I ever had a proper pair. Clearly I need to make up for lost time & get a pair of those beauties. 🙂
Jemina says
I LOVE that Fluevog shoes so much!!!

I love those McQueen shoes, the Fluevogs not so much. However, I do love LMK and Groove is in the Heart. I was rather obsessed with that video in the early 90s. That track has stood the test of time.

You and I have the same taste in extraordinary shoes, apparently!
I love L.M.K.’s bodystocking/jumpsuit!

Arrgh the McQueens booties! I have nothing intelligent to add except that I must stop going out in my old Converse. Unacceptable!

Lara says
I’d rather have the original Ferragamos than a Picasso! 😉
WendyB says
A Picasso wouldn’t make you walk taller, that’s for sure.
