Here are two more dresses that could have been worn to the superheroes-themed Met Costume Institute Gala. Neither of these would have been as fabulous as a full-on Catwoman look, but they would have been better suited to the theme than the very ordinary dresses that were worn by most of the women. (Note to Sarah Michelle Gellar: I am a big Buffy fan, but why did you even fucking bother? Next time, give your invitation to me if you’re not going to try. Or at least put on some WendyB jewelry to liven up that boring black dress.)

Well said Wendy! I hate that Buffy girl too, sooo boring
And the outfits are just gorgeous and originals
Miss Janey says
Too many stylist encouraging too many starlets to play it safe lest they end up on some random worst-dressed list. The LA Times ran an editorial last week (can’t find it sorry) about the same trend with musicians… If they won’t dress crazy- who’s left?
coco says
I love that McQueen dress!
Sharon Rose says
Wow-this 2nd one is a knockout-you would make a great stylist to the stars Wendy-2nd job, maybe!!
Fashion Ivy says

Prunella Jones says
Love that last dress. I’d wear it with big gold cuffs on both wrists like Wonder Woman.
Tam Pham says

These dresses are far more interesting that the “pretty” dresses everyone wore. Why won’t people take risks?

Iheartfashion says
I chose a Dior couture chartreuse gown with black jewel encrusted spider details (to come as Spiderman’s ev-il female nemesis), but somehow my invite got lost in the mail!
And I’d add Caroline Trentini in vintage Mugler and Hamish Bowles in black leather fake muscle jacket with tux to the list who “got it.”
WendyB says
Iheartfashion, Your invitation must have wound up in the same places as my lost invitation! You and I will have to wear our gowns elsewhere I guess…
Fashion Critic says
OH my good you are so right about the Alexander McQueen dress.
Fashion Critic says

-h of candid cool says
the wang and the last one are especially good choices
Blue Floppy Hat says
I thought Audrey Tautou’s dress was lovely, and mildly costumey too (she had a big, rigid capelike thing on it).
Truthfully, SMG has never been the biggest fashion risk-taker, but I thought Michelle Trachtenberg did a great job of keeping the sartorial flag flying for ex-Buffy fans, check her out here (though she wasn’t obvious about it, I still liked that her choice of clothing was a bit different):
