Here are a few thoughts I had while watching Hair on Broadway with gorgeous blogger La Belette Rouge last week.
- Oh, young people, you are so annoying with your crazy outfits, personal hedonism disguised as political activism, and constant requests for parental money!
- Did hippies really wear lace-front wigs?
- If Prada makes an outrageously expensive copy of that purple dress, I will be first in line to buy it.
- Why is the American Idol guy with the outrageously defined abs hidden in the back row during the nude scene?
- I can’t believe it took me two years to buy tickets to this play.
- LET’S GET UP ON STAGE AND DANCE!!!!*
*We did.

You know, I’ve never seen “Hair” and I’ve always wanted to. It looks like a good time to me. I know a bunch of the songs from it and always meant to check it out somewhere. In fact, all my years in NYC and I only saw Broadway plays maybe twice. Yikes.
P.S. I just burned my draft card like it said, all is well. No Vietnam for me. (huh?)
WendyB says
Did you also “bring your own pot”?
Vegetable Assassin says
Does the day have a “y” in it, lady? 🙂
…You meant a plant pot, right?

Ace…naked…and he wasn’t front and center? WHAT?
WendyB says
His abs were SO distracting. No one had abs like that in the ’60s. No one has abs like that NOW except for Hollywood peeps! I kept staring at his abs. They were like a not-talented version of Sam Waterston’s eyebrows. Sam’s eyebrows are still the leader in body parts.

We actually saw this ‘back in the day’ and still listen to the original cast recording, if you can believe it! It’s so cool you and LBR went to it together, it sounds like you two had a grand time when she visited.

So did I! I loved that show! I saw it London less than a month ago when the cast was here, do you know if it’s the same cast back in NY now? Indicator: the guy playing Berger is seriously swoony. I was like a metre away from him on stage, too! Ahaha xx
drollgirl says
well, it seems as if you liked it!
i take it this is different than the john waters movie hairspray? hopefully it was as entertaining.
and please forgive my cluelessness! we west coast folks don’t get to the theatre much! 🙂
WendyB says
Why has no one thought of a Hair/Hairspray double feature before? You’re a genius! (And yes, they are very different but both probably better with drugs.)
Fashionistable says
I am confused with the lace front wigs. When you wear them do you keep the lace over your face? I think I must be missing something here. I don’t understand why you would want to do that. Please fill me in. Thanks Xxxx
WendyB says
Ha! No, it’s not a Lady Gaga-style hair piece. Here is a description of lace-fronts: http://www.blackvoices.com/black_lifestyle/style_beauty_features_advice_galleries/directory_pg/canvas/_a/lace-front-wigs/20070220155809990001
The reason I was commenting on them is because I thought I could see visible wig evidence, which amused me in a play that emphasized the meaning of long, natural hair.

I loved this play. I grew up on the music and seeing it live with fabulous. I ran up on stage with my Mom and sang my heart out. It was one of the best things we ever did together. Need to go back and revisit the purple dress.

I saw some major lace-front action in the new Robin Hood movie. Like you could SEE the lace crosshatch. I secretly think of them as Travolta Wigs.
