When I like a style, I like it …
Joan Jett released “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” in 1981, and I’m wearing a version of her haircut FORTY YEARS LATER.
Designer Stephen Sprouse put DayGlo colors on the runway in 1984, and I’m still obsessed.
And I’ve wanted Freddie Mercury’s cool star sunglasses since Queen’s “We Will Rock You” video came out in 1978. (Not a throwaway, plastic novelty pair. I mean the real deal, prescription and all.)
In fact, I blogged about Freddie’s shades in August 2007 in a post titled “Stars on Your Eyes.” Dang! Fourteen years have gone by and I still don’t have the glasses that will make me look like the starstruck emoji.
But now I — and you — can wear stars on our ears, because July’s Jewel of the Month is the brand-new pair of chunky 18K gold star stud earrings currently available on 1stdibs (soon to be on my website as well). These originated as a special request, designed to complement the much larger non-earring studs on a leather motorcycle jacket.
If I do say so myself, my star earrings are a great size. If you have a single lobe piercing, the star looks substantial, but if you have lots of piercings like I do, this stud will play well with your other earrings.
Want to wear it in a second hole? Let my friend Debra Lewis show you how it’s done.
If you do have multiple piercings, I suggest pairing my studs with one (or more) of the star, moon, or sun earrings from my friend Anthony Lent’s jewelry collection, because Tony’s celestial designs all have adorable faces. Seriously, I went to Tony myself and got a teeny tiny star, sized for a cartilage piercing, to wear with my own star earring — and as I’ve pointed out, I rarely buy from other jewelers. I figure if I can’t have stars on my eyes, the more stars on my ears, the merrier!
Anyway, I’ve got one pair of 18K yellow gold star studs available for immediate delivery on 1stdibs. Click here to shop. And if you prefer 18K rose gold or white gold or platinum stars instead, I’ll make you a custom version. Holla at me at info at wendybrandes dot com!
