The red carpet was good at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. How good? Lady Gaga was merely the first runner-up for my prestigious Best Dressed/Where What You Want combo award, rather than the winner.
That said, I 100% loved Gaga’s white Christian Dior couture gown. (Are those tiny, lacy shorts peeking out from the thigh-high slit? Harper’s Bazaar says so!) It wasn’t all the dress, though. Gaga took the look to the next level with her sculpted hair and deep burgundy lips and nails. That big diamond choker from Tiffany wasn’t too bad either!
Other runners-up included Yara Shahidi in a sparkling Fendi Couture catsuit worn under a transparent dress — a look that brought to mind Gaga’s more goth catsuit and skirt from the 2018 Grammys. Shahidi still looked very fresh and different.
Alison Brie stole my heart with the oversize bow on her Miu Miu dress. True, it wasn’t the boob or butt bow that I prefer, but I appreciated that it was so large you could see it coming …
… as well as going.
Emily Blunt’s Michael Kors dress also had the kind of built-in accessory that I go for, with a massive ruffle that some people compared to a vagina. I thought Blunt wore the vagina dress with great aplomb.
On another night, any of those could have been winners, but the key part of my Best Dressed/Wear What You Want award is the “Wear What You Want” part. I mean, everyone has a best-dressed list, right? I need to do something different, and, as I’ve said before, “eye-catching” is more important to me than “attractive” when it comes to this prize. So the big winner of the night was Michael B. Jordan, with a multicolor harness by Virgil Abloh for Louis Vuitton over his suit.
To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of the way the harness is laying on the suit jacket. The instantly signature Vuitton accessory worked better on Timothee Chalamet at the Golden Globes a few weeks ago. Chalamet’s sparkling black harness over a black pullover top was a sleeker ensemble.
But I am true to spirit of my award. Jordan delivered a major “Wear What You Want” moment, and the fact that I’m not its No. 1 fan is irrelevant!
Other men who pushed the envelope included Chadwick Boseman in Ermenegildo Zegna XXX and multiple man brooches; Anthony Ramos in a suit with a green print; and Lakeith Stanfield making the cummerbund look sexy in another Ermenegildo Zegna XXX suit.
Finally, my Judith Light Award for Fierce Posing goes to … no one! Judith, unfortunately, wasn’t there and, from what I’ve seen, no one was prepared to take up the slack. If I missed a fierce pose, let me know in the comments!
