Does anyone even know what day of the week it is? The week between Christmas and New Year’s is like a time warp, except I also don’t know who, what, or where I am. If you too are staring vaguely in the direction of a screen, you might as well take this time to catch up on some highlights from my YouTube channel. Here’s a video for each month of 2018.
In January, I introduced a new collection in partnership with ANZA Gems. A portion of the proceeds go to support education in the mining communities of Tanzania and Kenya. The only thing that’s better than jewelry is jewelry for a good cause!
February featured a behind-the-scenes look at one of our jewelry photoshoots.
I always dedicate a blog post to my special Best Dressed/Wear What You Want award winners after the Oscars, but this March, I pivoted to video. And the winner is …
In April, I spoke about how the stories of powerful women inspire the designs in my 18K gold jewelry line.
If you’re going to wear a ring every single day, you should love the way it looks! If you need tips on how to get (or give) the perfect engagement ring, check out this video from May.
When my right-hand woman Eryn and I went to the Couture 2018 jewelry show in Las Vegas in June, we had all these grand plans for doing multiple in-depth videos. We managed to do one.
I’ve done a number of business-oriented videos this year because there are a lot of misconceptions about what it’s like to be in a creative industry and/or run your own company. You can count on me to tell it like it is. I did a two-part video in July. In the first one, I dealt with awards and other sorts of “fame,” and how a high profile isn’t necessarily reflected in your earnings. (And that’s something a LOT of high-profile people in any kind of industry will never, ever admit.)
The second one is about becoming successful in the jewelry business. Step #1: Try to be born into a family that’s been in the jewelry business for generations.
Of course, I’m not all business all the time. Sometimes I just have to spend seven minutes or so professing my love of Madonna, like I did this August in honor of her 60th birthday.
I got my 11th ear piercing in September, and gorgeous jewelry-designer Julie Lamb was there to take video (and get a piercing of her own).
In October, I was gearing up for the most-important midterm elections ever. This video tackles a lot of the excuses people have for not voting.
On November 6, I did an Election Day reminder video.
Let me tell you, I was thrilled by the record turnout and that we flipped the House and New York State Senate blue!
For December, I had some other business advice to share because so much “conventional wisdom” is so bad. I mean, people really act like investors are a great solution to any cash-flow challenge. Yeah, right. There’s a good chance you’ll go out of business anyway AND lose rights to your own name. Proceed with caution and pray for a business partner like Robert Duffy.
I’ll have some more biz-advice videos coming up in 2019, as well as unveilings of new jewelry designs and in-depth looks at favorite fashion designers. I’ve done FAQ videos on vintage clothing, so if you have any questions about that topic that haven’t been answered already, feel free to ask in the comments here or on YouTube. You can also request other video topics — what are you curious about?
