No Saturday plans? Looking for a way to channel your energy? If you’re in New York, get on the 6:30 a.m. bus organized by Planned Parenthood and go to Washington, D.C. Even if we can’t stop the lying, threatening, conspiracy-theory-spreading Brett Kavanaugh from being confirmed to the Supreme Court, make sure your voice is heard (especially because we know he hates the sound of a woman’s voice).

I just came back from Washington today. Yesterday, I had the honor of accompanying sexual-assault survivors from Arizona, Alaska, and Maine to the Stop Kavanaugh rally in D.C., where they briefly addressed the crowd from the steps of the Supreme Court, both before and after meeting with the staff from their respective senators’ offices. Sorry for my shaky camera work; I was crying so hard by the end I couldn’t keep my phone steady.
I like to think Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — who voted against moving the Kavanaugh nomination to the final vote tomorrow — was affected by hearing the stories of survivors Faith, Joel, and Stefani. They sure made an impact on me.
Thank you to all the survivors for letting me tag along while they spoke up about the worst experiences of their lives in order to help other people.
Thank you also to actor and activist Amber Heard who was so kind to all the survivors. This photo of her really says it all … she was literally holding out her hand to draw one of the survivors closer to her.
I feel like I should have stood on a chair for this photo with her …
… though that photo doesn’t come close to the extreme highs and lows represented by this picture of Arizona survivors Tennille and Teresa.
Also, shout-out to the young lady who greeted me in an elevator and told me that as a high-school student, she’d interviewed me during the glory days of fashion blogging. I wish we took a selfie! If you see this, say hello in the comments, because your new job sounded interesting.
New Yorkers who can’t take the bus tomorrow can still call and Resistbot our senators, Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. Contact information and suggested scripts are here. If you’re not a New Yorker, the free Resistbot service is available nationwide, 24/7, to help you get in touch with your elected officials. Text the word RESIST to 50409 to get started, or go to Resistbot’s website to learn about using it via Twitter, Facebook, and Telegram.
