Last week, I introduced the first two videos in a series about my new Wendy Brandes Gold, Wendy Brandes Platinum, and Wendy Brandes Silver collections. I’m adding to those with this week’s featured YouTube video about my platinum collection.
If you prefer watching/hearing me talk about platinum while I’m outside, you can check out this video I did for the Platinum Guild trade association in 2016.
In other platinum news, the Wall Street Journal ran a story by Alexander Wexler about platinum in January that I found very interesting. It said that with platinum prices down and fears about a loss of demand for industrial usage, platinum producers are working to create demand for platinum as a luxury metal in India and other countries that have traditionally favored gold jewelry. That’s right, I said “industrial usage.” The Journal article explains that platinum turns up where you might not expect it:
“The metal’s biggest use is in catalytic converters, which scrub diesel and gas emissions from internal-combustion engines.”
Electric cars don’t need catalytic converters … and that’s how the growing popularity of electric cars leads to more platinum jewelry in India, kids!
If you missed last week’s introduction to my new collections, you can catch up now.

So I’ve never heard your speaking voice until this post, I always assumed you had a really loud voice with a New York drawl!!! I loved hearing you speak about metal allergies, I’ve always been sensitive to copper/brass growing up but once I hit my late-20s I started developing allergies to gold, steel and silver in my lobes (that had been pierced for 20yr at this point). It got so bad I gave up wearing earrings entirely! I’ve now found that I can wear titanium and niobium….but I’ve never checked out platinum earrings. I’m on a mission now!

Ha ha! Well, you can indulge in a whole bunch of videos if you want to hear more of my voice. I really want to do some titanium designs too. I was thinking of those when I realized, hey, I should start with platinum anyway. Of course, platinum is more expensive … but it’s PLATINUM! Especially if you have allergies and can’t buy any old thing, it’s worth saving up for. BTW, feel free to ask me for any custom designs you want! Like if you just need basic studs, or something more fun that isn’t usually available. I’d be happy to do a platinum middle finger emoji!
