My Oscar Gown Archives, Part IV

Time to wrap up my look back through my own Oscar fashions. If you missed my earlier posts, catch up on them now.

• Part I: 2003 – 2005 in vintage, plus a compliment from Renee Zellweger.
• Part II: 2006 – 2009, with a cameo from George Clooney and all kinds of butt adornments.
• Part III: 2010 – 2014. I thought that baggie was a tampon, honest to God!

On several occasions, I’ve worn a black-tie outfit to the Committee to Protect Journalists’ annual dinner in November and then worn the same ensemble to the Vanity Fair Oscar party in February/March. That’s what I did in 2015 with my Sex-ay Pilgrim Dress and top hat.

This is one of my favorite Oscar looks. First of all, I got the Donald Brooks Couture dress on eBay in 2003/2004 for $60. Second, the dress has pockets. Third, this happened:

For the 2016 party, I entertained myself by wearing the vintage Lillie Rubin dress that I considered wearing — but didn’t — in 2007.

I definitely saved it for the right moment. You can see from the look on my face that I’m totally feeling myself!

Finally, last year I had the urge to wear something a little crazy. I’ve worn my vintage dollar dress other times, but I wasn’t sure if I would have the nerve to wear it to a heavily fashion-police-supervised event. I brought along a backup — I think it was this vintage gown. But then I decided to go for the monied look.

And that’s it! I don’t know if we’ll ever be lucky enough to go a major Oscar event again — at least not till the movie version of my stepdaughter’s book wins for best adapted screenplay — but we’ve been 13 times and we can’t end on that number, right? Vanity Fair, come through for me in 2019!
