A big thank you goes out to all the gorgeous clients who came by our two-day pop-up shop this week! And a YUGE thank you to jewelry designers Julie Lamb and Jackie Cohen, who organized this event, which they named #TheHookUp. As Julie told JCK, she and Jackie were “aiming to hook our guests up with the best of New York City designers and luxury goods.”
Besides Julie’s and mine, the jewelry lines being shown were My Story Fine Jewelry (Jackie’s collection), Christine Huber, Goldhenn, Page Sargisson, Delphine Leymarie, and Maya J. Armadio leather goods and Arbonne skincare were also there.
As you can see, a good time was had by all. You can also see that all of us were women. In the same business. Working together. Proving once again that the myth of women not being able to work together is something men made up to keep us down is just that … a myth.
I forgot to take an outfit photo on Wednesday. That’s the second time since January that I’ve neglected to take a photo of the black sweater dress that I got from the Victoria’s Secret catalog at least 12 years ago. (I suspect it’s older than that.) Even I, the anti-closet-purge queen, can’t believe I kept that.
The sweater and boots I wore last night were also at least 12 years old, but my skirt was new to me. Maybe it was old to someone else, because I got it second-hand at Bond 07 by Selima last year. This was its first time being worn because I like to wait until the right moment to wear new clothes. A few times, the right moment has been years after the purchase!
What Wendy Wore
Sweater: Dolce & Gabbana (pre-2005)
Skirt: Yves Saint Laurent (2016)
Over-the-Knee Boots: Manolo Blahnik (previous guess: 2003)
Bag at feet: Louis Vuitton (2006-ish?)
The reason I often date pre-blog clothes to “pre-2005” is because I remember wearing them when I worked at Lehman Brothers, which was 2000 to 2005. I didn’t always wear them TO the Lehman Brothers office — I can’t imagine wearing those boots there — but I did wear them during my investment-bank era. I don’t miss that era at all!
