I hadn’t visited Decades in Los Angeles — aka vintage-gown heaven — in forever, and I rectified that yesterday. I emailed fabulous sales associate Helena before I went in and told her I only wanted to see over-the-top designs. I believe this one was by Oscar de la Renta. I tried on a lot of Oscars on this Oscar weekend.
Wearing this Halston made me feel like my Halston-loving doppelgänger Liza Minnelli.
I think this is another Oscar de la Renta.
I know for sure this one is an Oscar. Look at the colors!
I tried on several other dresses that I forgot to photograph. That was because I was tipsy from too many glasses of rosé after a celebratory lunch for author (and former Wall Street Journal) writer Ron Suskind. Ron wrote Life, Animated about how his autistic son, Owen, re-learned to speak by memorizing Disney movies. The book became a documentary that is nominated for an Oscar tonight. The documentary category is stuffed with superb nominees this year, but, no matter what, Ron and his lovely wife Cornelia got a pair of Oscars at lunch.
By the way, I may have bought one of those Decades dresses in my semi-drunken state, but you’ll have to wait and see!
UPDATED TO ADD: Life, Animated didn’t win but watch it anyway!

I really hope you bought the first one, because it’s one of the most beautiful gowns I’ve seen you in in ages! But, from following your blog for so many years, I’d wager a bottle of wine that you got the last one.

I literally laughed out loud. You got me! Drink up!

The dresses in the 1st and last photos are the most stunning. I hope you went with the gown in the first because it’s so frothy, light, and more Givenchy than ODLR.
