Last week, I mentioned that at my 2001 wedding, I changed out of my Richard Tyler wedding gown and into a custom-made white leather halter top and hip-huggers. A few of you requested pictures. Here they are.
I thought I was being pretty edgy with the leather at the time, but the gown is so conservative, isn’t it? I was striving for something “timeless” and “elegant” and blah blah blah. Pretty but boring. Nowadays, I would just go crazy. Maybe a rainbow-striped gown with a giant hoop skirt. There would have to be a whole bunch of midgets under the hoop skirt, of course. I’d have the midgets jump out and throw glitter at everyone after the kiss. Now THAT’S occasion dressing!
Anyway, now that I’ve done what you asked and shared these photos, you can do a little something for me. Hey, there’s no such thing as a free lunch here! If you haven’t done it already, click here to give my photo five hearts so I can be a winner in the Independent Fashion Bloggers Dress-Up Contest. Need more reasons to vote for me? Read yesterday’s post.
UPDATED TO ADD: My cake was by Ron Ben-Israel. He later recreated it in a different color scheme for Modern Bride magazine. I think my version is superior.

HOLY HELL, you look unbearably gorgeous. In BOTH the dress and the leather! Did you make your own tiara, perchance?

I voted–that dress wins hands down. Going through your blog, looking at all of your lovely vintage! It’s more than lovely, you do vintage like no one else. I’m coming down with the flu, I’m going to crawl into bed and spend some time in your archives….

Gorgeous bride, gorgeous cake. This post is a winner across all metrics. 🙂

Oh my god! Thank you for accepting my request, you look absolutely stunning. Timeless in the gown, and strangely in the leather suit too which looks oddly classic. A leather suit, classic? Hmm.
But seriously, how could you put that cake in the same post??? Now my eyes are just fixated on the cake. I can’t stop looking. So Dali-esque. Now I am hungry.

HOTNESS!! love that you changed into something completely different from the gown.. and 5 hearts for you!

Miss Wendy is a super-foxy bride. Her beauty elevates ANY gown, no matter how “classic & timeless”. And the leather pants- smokin,’ girl!

That cake is kooky! I never understood how you serve those things….was the whole cake edible?
I love looking at my Aunt and Uncle’s wedding photos from the seventies. At one point, they are both wearing matching high-waisted jeans, plaid button-down shirts and cowboy boots. Also, my Aunt has an afro perm.
Business wedding/party reception.

Wow, Wendy, you look amazing! It IS a classic dress – but I can see how 9 years later you might want to revisit and make it whackadoo. 😛 The halter and the pants are…wow, I’m speechless. You have got balls, woman.

Leather and a tiara? Not an expected combination, but you rock it!

Wendy B – you look gorgeous blah blah blah. But…THE CAKE! Ron Ben-Israel needs to collaborate to make a DRESS version. An EDIBLE dress version. Now that would be good…I wore a meringue dress to my wedding. Just IMAGINE if had been real meringue and my husband had EATEN it off me on the dancefloor…

That is one wacky cool cake! Of course you look like a princess for your big day 🙂 And the leather pants are awesome, though I would not be able to pull off such figure hugging amazingness. My own wedding gown was a frothy cupcake dress. I would definitely wear something edgier for my recommitment ceremony.

Y’all are precious, just precious!
And I voted, of course, but you already know what I think about you in that gown! Remember my comment? Here it is, just in case: “Oh, my, you should’ve been around to have been in ‘What’s New Pussycat?’ in that fantastic leopard print, honey. And you know I don’t mean you look old. I mean you look H-O-T! Wow!” I meant that you don’t look old enough to have been in the movie. I really ought to proofread my comments before I click on Submit Comment.
