In 2011 and 2012, I wrote about the attention paid to singer Kelly Clarkson’s weight. Even though some of that chatter was and is ostensibly positive — “She’s one of us! She’s a regular gal!” — I still think it sucks that she has to talk about weight at all.
Last week, Clarkson announced that she’s pregnant. In an interview with Parade (apparently conducted before the pregnancy was revealed), she mentioned one of the reasons she was looking forward to pregnancy:
“Everybody calls me fat all the time, so I can’t wait to have a reason, instead of everybody just being a jerk!”
Everybody should shut their big mouths, but they won’t, so I’m looking forward to the “body after baby” stories already!

I’m glad I don’t have a job that requires this kind of conversation all the time!

So many people at my work have asked me if I was pregnant. At least 20 people. I have never been pregnant. But thanks for making me feel like shit, coworkers!! I would love to work in an atmosphere that wasn’t so traditional and nosy. Besides thinking I look super fat, there’s another stigma lurking at my workplace. If you aren’t a mom by a certain age, you become highly suspect. I have people ask me why I have no children. I have people say I can’t understand love until I have kids. All odd, personal things to say to someone you do not actually know personally. I feel for Kelly. I can’t escape the judgements no matter how I do or do not answer.

People should be slapped for asking anyone about pregnancy! My policy is that I don’t ask if someone is pregnant unless I see a baby coming out of her at that instant! How rude!
I tell people I know the meaning of love, because I love not having children so much! LOL! You may use that line if you like 😉
And let me know if you need me to slap anyone.
I can’t get over the nerve of people, it’s like high school forever.

Ugh, this poor girl.

I’d have to shoot anyone who asked me about my weight.
