WWD reports that designer Tara Subkoff is seeking buyers for her line, Imitation of Christ. Apparently, she’s experiencing classic small business woes. The finances aren’t there to keep up with demand, and she’s had to cancel shipments of her fall-winter collection. That’s a small business owner’s worst nightmare – getting the orders but not being able to fill them. It’s hard to stay in business after that. I feel that even if she finds a buyer, she’ll be making a quick exit anyway. She’s working on a capsule collection under her own name for Bebe, which follows capsule collections she’s done for Easy Spirit. I envision her continuing down that path in the future. Interesting that this comes just days after Kate and Andy Spade announced their departure from Kate Spade. At least they made $124 million from the sale of their company.
