Once in a while, something great happens that I didn’t expect or even know I wanted, and I am so happy that, upon reflection, I realize it was secretly my one and only desire all along and that I will never want anything again. Unfortunately, the “never want anything again” part only lasts a minute because I am a little pig. Fortunately, the happiness lasts longer.
On Friday, the great thing was Leah’s post about my blog on Style for the Stay at Home Mom. (UPDATED JANUARY 2011 TO NOTE HER BLOG IS NOW, SADLY, DEFUNCT.) Thank you for the nicest compliments ever, Leah! I got all choked up, for real, y’all.
On Sunday, April 24, 1994, the great thing was seeing this silly picture of me in the New York Times.
I am the one in the leopard jacket and yes, I AM wearing a skirt. Thanks for asking. Here’s a picture of me in the same jacket in 2006.

Wendy,
All of the compliments were much deserved! I took some time to read the links to your husband’s new project, Pro Publica, and I think it’s amazing and so important. I called my husband into the office and he was pretty impressed too (being a WSJ reader but also as a citizen of this country). The hit to journalism has been so hard and fast I don’t know if many have noticed. The LA Times used to run extensive investigative articles but within a short period of time journalists were fired and the newspaper feels like a local paper instead of a national/international newspaper. We have complained/threatened to cancel our subscription but we still feel it is important to support print journalism. Pro Publica sounds like one important piece to maintaining quality journalism and thus government oversight. Just got finished watching Frontline – scary stuff.
On another note, I also was reading your older posts on punk, Malcolm McClaren etc… It was really interesting! I love Adam Ant, Bow Wow Wow and The Clash but I have never taken the time to learn much about the history of punk music and influences in Britain. I was also reading your Henry VIII wives posts! So many interesting things to read! Thanks again for sharing!

I’ll admit I’m not really a fan of animal prints because I’ve not come across one that really suits my small frame well. But I like seeing others in it and you certainly are one to carry it off well. You look smashing, especially with the necklace. Boy, I never thought of it as a bold accessory. NICE!

Love the honesty of your reactions as well as your personal insights! And the “I AM wearing a skirt”–that’s for BarbaraB, right?

Thanks for the blog post Wendy! Love the jacket, the fit is great and the jewelry is to kill for. Your blog is off the hook, we have a similar obsession with queens. Linking to you now!

Hey, thanks for coming by my blog 🙂
I don’t know if I’ll NEED grad school to get in, but I feel that one advantage of grad school would be the contacts I could make, if I can’t get into publishing any other way. Obviously this is a much more expensive option, but if it’s my only option then I will have to seriously consider it.
Great jacket! 🙂

@Leah, I read your comment to my husband and he really appreciated it. It’s good to know that readers have the same feeling as people in the business. The LAT sure has had its ups and downs..mostly downs…lately. @Lynette, you are right, BarbaraB asked that question in 1994. @other peeps, thanks for your kind comments! If you want to take a look at the necklace I’m wearing, click here:

Wendy, please do tell what event brought that adorable pic to the NYT reading public of 1994?

@ IFY. LOL. I will quote from the Times itself: “Fashion Cuts Loose. A blow-out party to end the second annual New York Fashion week, in one of the Bryant Park tents, April 13.” And the caption for my photo is: “12:50 AM: Two guests dance on the stage where only hours earlier models showed the fall collection.”
BWAH! I don’t know why that seems so funny about that to me…it just does!
