My gorgeous Atlanta-based rapper friend Lola Mitchell, aka Gangsta Boo, came to New York City this weekend to perform with Mach Five on their Ratchet Shit tour. (Best name evah for a tour because you can do any gross thing and blame it on the theme.)
The show wasn’t until Sunday, so MrB took me, Boo and gorgeous blogger/designer Stacy Lomman to dinner at Catch on Saturday night. Catch is in New York’s once-desolate-now-mall-like Meatpacking District. As is typical for that neighborhood on the weekends, the restaurant was packed with short bandage dresses. Our little group bucked the trend, of course. I wore jeans and a black t-shirt (surprise!) with a vintage Patrick Kelly jacket that I got on eBay in 2010. Stacy wore a mint-blue dress from her own Spring 2012 collection.
I think Stacy’s dress looks much sexier on her than it did on her model — no offense to the model.
Boo wore her Wendy Brandes Cleopatra earrings and nameplate necklace …
… and she got a set of my NYC rings so that she’d fit in with the locals.
My favorite picture of the night is this one I took of Boo and MrB, strolling along after dinner. Aren’t they a cute couple?
We were so excited for the show on Sunday.
Boo had arrived with no luggage — long story! — so she wore a mint-green outfit I helped her pick out in a frenzy at H&M the day before. (Both she and Stacy were right on trend with their mint hues this weekend.) Boo’s vintage checked sunglasses are a loaner from me; I bought those in 2010. I wore my YOLO ring set, a Damien Hirst t-shirt I got at the Tate Modern in London last month, my Ash wedge sneakers and a sticker promoting rapper Yelawolf’s Slumerican Records on my shorts.
The image on my shirt is the diamond-covered skull by Damien Hirst called “For the Love of God.” I would be totally into someone using my skull for an ultra-luxurious art project after my death. I’d love to be dressed up for eternity with lots of museum-goers for company. Because diamonds have already been done, I suggest that whoever gives me my final makeover use my signature gem, tsavorite, instead. Seriously, go for it.
Anyway, back to the here and now. For the concert, Stacy opted for a hippie-chic look with a sheer flowing shirt, beads and denim shorts, but she updated it with a well-placed Slumerican sticker.
Stacy and I hung out on stage while Boo did her thing.
The audience really went wild for Boo. Here she is doing her verse from “Throw It Up” by Yelawolf, featuring Boo and Eminem. It’s because of that song that I started talking to her on Twitter, so I’m partial to it.
She did another rap that was so hilariously filthy that I was relieved that I’d left MrB at home. He’s too young for that kind of stuff.
Here’s Boo after the show with Corey Davis from Mach Five …

Loved your Mr B is a real OG comment – though I do think he should have had a Slumerican sticker on the back of his blazer. Boo is cool. I want to go on the Ratchet Shit tour!

You’re right! He’s missing his sticker…

So fun – I love the skull tee. I saw an art exhibit about a year ago where they covered items with clear marbles – it made the objects underneath (a deer head with antlers was the coolest thing) look like they were covered in bubbles.

Mr B is tremendously cool. Love your musical notes jacket. A girl cannot go wrong with a black tee, right?
Hmmmm, that dress does look very different on the model…er, rather droopy. It’s lovely on Stacy, tho’.
