I’m amused by Happyplace.com‘s collection of anti-ObamaCare, pro-Canada tweets.
Empty threats are so annoying. Can’t we pass a law that says that anyone who vows to move to Canada (“#forrealthough”) has to GO? Immediately? Like as soon as you say or write it, a moving van pulls up in front of your house. I know it would suck for Canada, but it would make room for all those people who are ready to risk their lives to get into the U.S. Bon voyage, Alexandria Baker! I hope you enjoy the socialized health-care system in Canada!
Poochie says
That’s hilarious. I mean, Canada also has “socialized” medicine so WTF? As does Costa Rica, I believe, but I’m still hoping Rush goes there.
Raquelita says
Ha! Those suckers will be in for a big surprise if they actually were to move to Canada where even relative conservatives like my father-in-law are pretty happy with their socialized medicine. I’m sure those asshats will also enjoy paying higher taxes there….
Eli says
Thank you thank you thank you for writing this!
I just had to read someone’s post on facebook about no taxation without representation rant. Um, that was because the British were taxing from overseas on American goods right? My brain cannot handle all this.
Janette says
Canadian here…We don’t want these people. Do they not realize what kind of healthcare we have here? Wow, and I thought Canadian politics was frustrating.
Danielle says
I’ve been hoping these tweets were a joke.
If they’re serious, these folks wouldn’t make it a week in Canada. In Ontario our taxes on goods and services slone is 13%. Democratic socialism is expensive, but it’s also worth it.
Sheila says
Um, yeah, don’t move to my neck of the woods – it’s the most expensive place to live in Canada! We have 14% sales tax, and it’s faster to get your cat an MRI or an X-ray than a person!
Susan Partlan says
My Dad liked using Mencken’s term Boobus americanus whenever this sort of thing popped up. Too bad he died before Twitter as he would have enjoyed the daily hilarity.
Katie, Interrobangs Anonymous says
Hah! I actually DID move to Canada back when Bush was elected the first time. Granted, it was to go to college, but I’m still counting it.
And in two months my fiance and I are going back for our honeymoon. My ultimate plan is to convince him of Canada’s awesomeness and that we should move there after we’re done living in Europe (which is where he is now). Granted, Canadian politics aren’t much of a peach right now, either, but it’s still the place I want to call home.
WendyB says
Moving there because you LOVE IT is definitely allowed! 🙂
Melanie says
Dear Americans who Want to Move To Canada to Escape Obama’s Healthcare Plan: Please move here. Since I know how much you will miss paying for health care once you arrive, I shall, from the goodness of my heart, set up my own private bank account where you can deposit the amounts you used to spend on private coverage to make you feel at home as quickly as possible.
WendyB says
Then please use those funds to buy jewelry from me.
Melanie says
Hee hee! Absolutely!!
Kaitlyn says
I am curious as to what makes them all think we would take them.
Megan says
As someone who works in Canadian immigration, I wasn’t perturbed by the stupids not knowing that we have socialized medicine, I was annoyed that they think they can just pick up and move here.
NOPE!
You have to apply to immigrate and be accepted and that can take years. GHA!
Christine says
Idiots (the tweeters that is). Canada doesn’t want you. If you can’t handle ObamaCare you won’t like the higher taxes that fund our health care system, and if you can’t stomach Obama you’ll have one hell of a time with Stephen Harper.
Beyond tax and healthcare systems, there are a million cultural differences between Canadians and Americans. I live in the US but am a Canadian citizen, so, trust me, I know the differences. I must say this doesn’t apply to all Americans.
And if you don’t support Obama, chances are highly likely you will hate our left wing political system.
Megan Mae says
Yep and what’s so funny is many of them probably -*gasp!* don’t vote. Ah people and hysterics. All I can say is I hope this helps more than it hurts.
Cara says
If you’re sending all of these Americans up to see us, are we allowed to send them up into the Arctic? They can be Stephan Harper’s personal Arctic Sovereignty army!
Alicia says
I’m speechless…
Miss Cavendish says
This Canadian is at a loss for words.
EAT.STYLE.PLAY says
lets help them pack.
WendyB says
I’d be delighted!
Be Inspired! says
Moving to Can… oops, already done! And it’s quite jazzy… with healthcare and all.
Long time no visit dear friend?!
WendyB says
Oh my gosh — I have to access my main Google Reader account — I had this authentication program on it that got all screwed up when I upgraded phones. I miss everyone!
Eileen Goddard says
Hahaha. Thank you for posting this. That is all 🙂
That's Not My Age says
Scary. I so hope Obama gets back in.
stacy says
This is a funny post.
Oh… and I’m moving to Canada.
WendyB says
Then who will water my plants when I’m away!
