I’m doing some collaborating with gorgeous London blogger Marian Kihogo and her model friend Tolula. I’ve loved Marian’s style for a long time. Her pattern-mixing, fondness for bright colors (especially in lipstick!), and trademark turban make her stand out, as does her height — she’s 6’1″ without shoes!
Marian wears a lot of chunky rings, so when she told me she was coming to New York for Fashion Week, I decided to make her something special. I took my regular sterling silver Evelina perma-stacked stacking ring, seen here …
… and here, on my own hands …
… and jazzed it up by setting two square-cut amethysts in it. Because Marian breaks all style rules, I set the amethysts upside down to symbolize her unique take on fashion.
I also loaned Marian other rings for her week in New York, and, of course, she put everything together in fascinating ways. I particularly like Hannan Saleh‘s close-up photo of Marian wearing her Evelina ring and my silver Fulvia ring over fingerless gloves.
I happened to have a silver Boleyn “M” initial necklace hanging around, so Marian wound up with that too. If you look closely — right under Marian’s chin — you can see it in this photo I took at Lincoln Center.
I dressed up in my finest black t-shirt and jeans to meet Marian that day.
Marian was more impressively dressed. Here’s her head-to-toe look.
I like that Marian doesn’t shy away from wearing heels. If you’re going to be tall anyway, why not be supa-dupa tall?
I hope you’ll see a lot more from Marian and me in the future. In the meantime, remember that you can always ask me for customized jewelry. I’ve shown a lot of custom pieces that I made from scratch or heavily redesigned, but I can also do smaller tweaks like the Evelina ring I did for Marian. Holla at me at wbjewelry at hotmail dot com if you want to chat about the possibilities.

Marians style is great! Her whole appearance seems very cool. And yes indeed the ring suits her very well. I’m also liking the picture with your ringed hands a lot. You can never go wrong with lots of rings!

I love how Marian worked your jewelry into her brilliant style.
Your idea to set the amethysts upside down was so cool, I really admire that . . . you could start a whole line of “spiked” jewelry with that as your starting point.
Tell me about that vest you’re wearing!
