Well, this year’s Oscars were kind of … a lot.
Early on, I was checking out the red-carpet fashion and wondering if I even had the energy to bestow my prestigious Best Dressed/Wear What You Want combo award this year. On one hand, we had Megan Thee Stallion looking like a goddess. On the other hand, I haven’t blogged in more than a month because I’ve been so distracted with Ukraine-related activism, and I haven’t been sure how to jump back in. Then came the slap seen around the world, and I thought “I give up on these Oscars.”
But, finally, we heard Lady Gaga telling a very fragile Liza Minnelli, “I’ve got you” … and I decided that was a moment of true style.
I’ve always said that my Best Dressed/Wear What You Want awards are more about being memorable than being beautiful, and I’ll definitely remember this interaction between Gaga and Liza for a long time. Gaga’s thoughtfulness extended into her wardrobe, because her tux let attention fall on LIza and her stylish DayGlo pink sleeves — whereas a typical Gaga outfit would have overwhelmed the guest of honor, in what might be one of the latter’s last public appearances. Gaga and Liza are my 2022 winners. I choose love!

This is the best Oscar take on the internet today. I remember watching the 2015 Oscars and being so bored that I almost turned it off and thank GOD I didn’t because of Lady G and Julie Andrews. I think that the red carpet coverage has changed a lot in the last decade–a lot less boring fashion police snark and a lot more love.

I’m glad you did this, and you picked my favourite moment of the entire show, Wendy. I was sobbing buckets at Gaga’s and Liza’s interaction. “I got you” – so sweet and poignant.
I loved Kristen Stewart’s outfit, Timothy Chalamet’s look, and Olivia Coleman’s goddessy gown.

I would definitely wear Olivia’s gown. I’m into the sleeve drama!

I totally agree!!!

Do you feel like you still haven’t recovered from that whole experience? Sheesh!
