Happy Lunar New Year! The Year of the Tiger calls for a throwback to a custom tiger ring I created years ago for gorgeous client Christine.
I would love to make a new tiger ring for the Tiger Year — with some changes, of course, so that Christine’s ring would remain uniquely hers.
It would be satisfying to get some orange sapphires into this design. I was already thinking of blue sapphires for the eyes when gorgeous Arlene chimed in on Facebook to suggest that a star sapphire would be a worthy successor to the original’s black pearl. I concur! Also, I’ve never worked with a star sapphire.
This is a big bold ring. I don’t think I have any photos of the finished ring “in the wild” (in other words, on Christine’s hand), but you can get some idea of the size from this photo of me holding the original hand-carved wax model for the piece.
