In my previous post, I thanked stylist and fashion journalist Marian Kwei for putting my Queen of Scots tiara on model/DJ Tolula Adeyemi for an Oscar party AND writing it all up for Story Magazine. Marian is a full-service operation!
After the Oscars, Marian did so much more for me and turned my jewelry into the cover story of Story Magazine’s Luxury Issue.
For this feature, Marian asked me to pick my eight favorite designs and tell her a little about each one. I was stumped at first. That’s like choosing eight favorite children from a couple of hundred: I’m like a sea turtle! I have a lot of offspring!
I decided to concentrate on jewelry that is currently available for purchase on my website and 1stdibs, rather than discontinued designs or one-of-a-kind custom work. Any and all jewelry that’s not for sale works some kind of magic on people, making them want THAT PIECE and nothing BUT that piece. Like, I’m sure I will now get requests for the discontinued tortoise locket pictured in this post. Anyway, for Marian, I leaned towards some of my most intricate pieces — the ones that usually elicit a surprised laugh when people realize just how many tiny details are there. I’ve always liked the combination of story-telling, luxury, and humor. And I chose a couple of bold statement pieces for good measure. If you want to take a couple of guesses before you check out the story, let me know in the comments how many you got right, and what you think I left out.

Also, the photos? How stunning do they look? Thanks again to Marian for giving me all that space.

I read the whole article and enjoyed revisiting some of your luxe designs! Can’t afford any of them, but still very proud to have my own three Wendy Brandes pieces!
This is awesome, Wendy, congrats!
