I’m back! Didn’t even know I was gone, didja? A software update rolled out by my hosting company last week was broken, so they rolled it back, but it was too late — my blog was already down. It took me a couple of days to trace the problem back to its source and get everything fixed up.
I was weirdly calm during this process, thinking, “I’m sure I’ll get this sorted out eventually.” In the 2007/2008 era of blogging, I would have panicked, assuming my work was gone forever. There was never anyone to turn to for help then! Tech-support live chat definitely makes things easier than they used to be.
Thinking of those early days of blogging, I remembered fondly that I wouldn’t have been the only person panicking. Before Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram took over, we bloggers used to spend so much time on each others’ blogs! If one went down, you’d be sure to hear from a concerned online friend with the quickness. I know I’ve said it a few times lately, but I do miss that period. Sure, we were online all the time but I remember it as being less overwhelming: One was less likely to be exposed to everyone’s drunk uncle’s racist propaganda on the early fashion blogs.
Anyway, I’m glad to be up and running again. Business as usual will resume this week!
