The New York Times still has some great reporters, despite itself, and Taffy Brodesser-Akner is one of them. Her New York Times Magazine story about gender discrimination and sexual abuse at jewelry-industry giant Signet Jewelers’ Sterling division — and the resulting class-action lawsuit — is a must-read. Keep in mind, plenty of facts about the class action have been reported before, because the suit has been dragging on for more than 10 years. But no article has been as richly detailed as this one. Plus, the story deserved a follow-up because people who aren’t directly affected forget about long-running lawsuits and the lives held hostage as deep-pocketed corporations work the judicial system.

I’m going to have more to say about this soon, as you can imagine. For now, I’ll leave you with this photo of me taken last April, while I was participating in an industry panel and had to listen to audience members vehemently argue that sexism in the jewelry industry was being overstated.
Face-palm level: Two-handed.
