There was so much in last Wednesday’s video about the late designer Patrick Kelly that I decided to stay with it this week rather than posting a new video as planned. The most important part of the Patrick Kelly video was about racism in fashion (and society in general) and Patrick’s way of co-opting racist symbols and incorporating them into his work. But I also mentioned:
- 1980s style
- Shoulder pads
- Molly Ringwald
- Ossie Clark
- Stephen Sprouse
- Bette Davis
- Princess Diana
- Bad choices by Prada and Gucci
- AIDS activism
- Photographer Bill Cunningham
I ended the video with some very specialized style advice, just in case you ever have to walk into a room full of famous people and dread feeling like a big nobody among them. You can see the intro to the advice on my business Instagram:
For the epiphany I had courtesy of a Patrick Kelly dress, you’re going to have to go to YouTube.

Walk in like you own the place! Confidence (whether it’s from feeling great, or a few glasses of wine!) can make you feel like a star.
My hubby and I are headed to Vancouver this weekend, where we are regularly asked if we are actors or in “the business” (tons of shows/movies film there), and it’s because a) we have style and b) we carry ourselves with confidence.
That was such a great video!

I just started watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and I loved it when they went into a restaurant with a cardboard “laptop” and a banana phone! BWAH. I aspire to that level of faking-it-till-I-make-it.
