In December, I was surprised to see two fashion slays from the traditionally dowdy political world: Michelle Obama in thigh-high Balenciaga boots and Nancy Pelosi wearing sunglasses and a MaxMara coat. I wasn’t expecting to see similar fierceness ever, let alone the very next month. But here’s groundbreaking Kyrsten Sinema — Arizona’s first female senator and the first openly bisexual senator — making her own thigh-high statement today.

Thanks to those boots, today’s ensemble blows away the outfit she wore for her swearing-in, though people were pretty excited about that one too. (And the fact that homophobic, religious hypocrite Mike Pence had to swear her in using a copy of the Constitution rather than the Bible.)
What is going on here? Am I going to have to start giving out Best Dressed/Wear What You Want awards to politicians? Who would have guessed!
UPDATED JANUARY 19, 2022, TO ADD: DAMN! I certainly didn’t predict that Sinema would turn out to be no better than an old-school white Republican man like Mike Pence, expressing more concern for the arcane, racist tradition of the filibuster than the well-being of her constituents, let alone democracy in general. Fuck her and the opportunistic boots she walked in with.
