In July, Melissa McEwan wrote a blog post titled, “The Trump Regime and Stochastic Terrorism.” She defined stochastic terrorism as:
“… the use of mass communications to incite random actors to carry out violent or terrorist acts that are statistically predictable but individually unpredictable. In short, remote-control murder by lone wolf.“
Her post predicted this week’s acts of domestic terrorism, including:
- Over a dozen pipe bombs sent by a Trump supporter to Democratic leaders and donors, as well as law enforcement.
- A white gunman who killed two black people at a Kentucky supermarket after he failed to invade a black church.
- Today’s mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue.
Click here to read her full post, which includes the decades-long history of stochastic terrorism fomented by the anti-abortion movement.
UPDATED TO ADD: Thanks to Jane Boon for alerting me to another piece on stochastic terrorism.
