If you’ve ever spoken about “taking to the streets” to protect women’s rights (and everyone else’s, of course!) … these next few days are a good time to come through.
Tomorrow — Wednesday, October 3 — all across the country, Americans will come together in peaceful vigils to demand that the U.S. Senate stop Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. To me, it’s beyond Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations. The way this dude behaved in the hearing showed that he is not only undeserving of the Supreme Court job, but also his current job, as well as things like “dogwalker” and “intern.” Seriously, would you hire someone who ranted about conspiracy theories and beer in a job interview? I thought Matt Damon nailed it on Saturday Night Live.
- Find a local event by entering your zip code here. If there is no local event, be bold! Plan one of your own!
On Thursday, activists are going to be descending on Washington D.C. to march to the Supreme Court. If you happen to be coming from New York City, there are some free buses, but RSVP now, while there might still be some seats left.
- Planned Parenthood bus: Meet at 5:30 at 26 Bleecker Street.
- Housing Works bus: Meet at 5:30 at 25 W. 18th Street.
Outside of New York, check in with your local Planned Parenthood or Indivisible group and see if they’re making plans. If you decide to drive, or take the bus or train with friends, don’t worry — you’ll know where to go when you arrive in D.C.! Just follow the crowds.
If you can’t get out to an event, light up your senators’ phone lines. You can call them AND write them by using the free Resistbot tool. Text the word RESIST to 50409 to get started. Call your own senators only! They need to hear from their constituents for it to count. The best way to have an impact on other states is to sign up for a phone bank to call people IN that state and encourage them to contact their senators. Indivisible will help you do this.
