I was in beautiful Rhinebeck, N.Y., yesterday but never had a chance to visit my friends at Hummingbird Jewelers …
… because I was busy canvassing for local congressional candidate Antonio Delgado.
This was my first time knocking on voters’ doors, and it was easier than I anticipated. My canvassing partner and I — and close to 15 other canvassing pairs — were checking in with registered Democrats who were listed as having missed voting in some elections. We discovered that a few people had moved; two siblings had gone off to college; and, of course, a lot of people weren’t home on a nice Saturday in the summer. There was a hot-air balloon festival going on!
The folks we did talk to were all very excited to vote, and a couple of them amused us by thanking us for “our service.”
In case you missed what was on the blog earlier this holiday week, you didn’t miss much!
- Monday, July 2: The beautiful Brooklyn Bridge, a Resistbot suggestion, and a way to complain about an immigration judge.
- Wednesday, July 4: Recommended reading and proof that the Statue of Liberty is ready to throw hands.
Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram, where there’s a throwback photo to my traditional 4th of July outfit.
