If you’re just tuning in to today’s flurry of blog posts, I’m going through my Oscar and Oscar party looks from 2003 though 2017.
- Part I: 2003 – 2005 in vintage, plus a compliment from Renee Zellweger.
- Part II: 2006 – 2009, with a cameo from George Clooney and all kinds of butt adornments.
Lo and behold, it turns out MrB and I missed the 2010 Oscars too. I watched from home and counted the number of women wearing drab, cement-colored gowns. This Mohawk-wearing mystery woman stole the show for me on the red carpet.
Happily, we were back at the Vanity Fair party in 2011, and to celebrate, I wore my leopard-print Patrick Kelly dress.
Feeling extra-appreciative for being included, I went all out when it came to blogging the attendees. Madonna was the first person we saw when we walked in the door!
The most talked-about attendee of the 2012 Oscars was Angelina Jolie’s right leg, which instantly accumulated 11,000 followers on Twitter. I’m a little sad to see that the leg’s Twitter came and went so quickly. Easy leg-fame come, easy leg-fame go!
My Zang Toi mullet dress and I were not going to be left out of the leg competition.
Here’s how that dress looked when I wasn’t clowning around in it.
At the Vanity Fair party, I admired the perfection of Sandra Bullock’s skin … and P. Diddy’s too! I didn’t get the names of their dermatologist, but I did pick up a little something else by accident.
My 2013 Vanity Fair ensemble was inspired in part by Jennifer Hudson’s controversial 2007 look. She was slammed for wearing a metallic bolero over a deep brown gown, but that’s a Wear What You Want look if I ever saw one.
I had purchased a ruffled and cropped Junya Watanabe jacket in 2012, and that year, I wore it to a pre-Oscar party (thrown by the cursed Weinstein Company) over a simple black dress. But I really wanted to wear it over a gown à la Hudson. By next year’s Vanity Fair party, designer Zang Toi had made a hot pink gown for me specifically to wear with the jacket.
We had additional fleeting, but charming, encounters with female celebrities that night. Paula Patton told us where to hang out to get an In-N-Out burger, and Sarah Silverman was lovely when MrB fangirled over her.
We encountered Paula Patton again at the 2014 party, but she was too busy to discuss hamburgers. Peep us tiptoeing past her as she poses for the cameras!
I was being very careful with the train of my purple velvet trench-gown by Zang Toi.
I’ll finish up my Oscar looks in one final post!
