The Hollywood Reporter has an interview with Oscar-winning Mad Max: Fury Road costume designer Jenny Beavan. Beavan’s casual outfit — an homage to Mad Max style — raised eyebrows at last Sunday’s ceremony.
Beavan seems like she’d be fun to hang out with. I like her attitude. She says, “.. you’ve seen me. I’m short, I’m fat. I really would look ridiculous in a gown.” And she points out, “You don’t actually have to look like a supermodel to be successful.”
And here’s one more noteworthy gown from Oscar night, worn by model/filmmaker Dorith Mous. This is no little black dress. This is a big black dress.
Black can be boring on the red carpet, but this design by corset-loving Dennis Diem is electrifying! Wouldn’t it be the perfect wedding gown for a Goth bride?
Sheila (of Ephemera) says
I love that Jenny just wore what she felt good in – the best accessory is an Oscar! That black corset gown is stunning!
WendyB says
ABSOLUTELY — the best accessory is an Oscar is the perfect description. Once you have that, who cares about the rest?!?
stacy says
The black dress is unbelievable!
Jenny’s quote is perfection. Wear what makes you comfortable and happy… that’s what I say 🙂
WendyB says
Love her attitude.

Here’s a woman who has won TWO Oscars, a testament to her talent and hard work. And, yet, people are slagging her on what she wore. Really? Nobody made a peep about David White’s (Mad Max Sound Editing Oscar winner) unique & personal take on Oscar style. Smells like sexism. Beavan wore a Mad Max, post-apocalyptic tuxedo, IMHO. You go, girl!
WendyB says
If I could choose between two Oscars and a big fancy wardrobe, I’d choose the Oscars!
