In 2012, I received two Chris Benz dresses that I’d ordered from a trunk show the previous fall. This was one and this was the other.
I never loved the black dress. The sample fit great, but the final product didn’t live up to the original’s promise. Jean from Ghost Tailor improved it immensely, but I still didn’t think the waist hit me quite where it should. I wore it several times, but then decided I should donate/sell it (and a couple of other pristine dresses) but I never got around to taking action. Finally, this year, my former right-hand woman, Eryn, came over to my apartment and I had a “Eureka!” moment. Behold!
I like this so much better on Eryn! A tiny difference in fit makes a big aesthetic difference to my eyes. The only problem was that Eryn wore it to an event I was at, and every time I looked at her, I momentarily thought I was seeing myself, in my dress, in a mirror. I kept trying to adjust my hair and lipstick while staring at her. Sorry for the weird looks, Eryn!

You were so right, that waistline is much better on Eryn. Funny how such a little thing makes a huge difference, good eye.

I’m glad you agree — so many people didn’t see it! To me, it was super clear.
