Clicking around the Interwebs, as one does, I came across an old Rolling Stone magazine slideshow of its “pop diva” covers. The 29 images include the iconic Britney Spears and Janet Jackson covers, of course. Mariah Carey’s cover might be the best she’s ever looked. One of my favorites is this playful 1989 Herb Ritts shot of Madonna.
The slideshow includes the Go-Gos (in white undies), Linda Ronstadt (sultry in pink), Beyonce, Tina Turner, the Spice Girls and more. Click here to take a look.
Very cool slideshow. I definitely remember some of the covers (Janet & Britney the most) but it was great seeing some of the older issues. I LOVE the Tina Turner cover and found it surprising Avril Levine (is that how you spell that?) had a cover at all.
Oh, yeah, “Complicated” was one of the biggest hits of 2002.
This photo reminds me so much of Marilyn! Marilyn Monroe, who died long before anyone could get snarky about her cheekbones, arms, or other indications of age.
Rock on, Madge! RIP Marilyn. Thanks for perspective, Wendy xoxo
You’re right! It does have a Marilyn feel.
That’s an impressive list of photographers, too!
I know!
I remember this cover. I think she looked her best at this time — she was perfection in the late 80’s.
Yep! And I love her smile.
