Designer Stephen Sprouse did camouflage-print designs based on screenprints by Andy Warhol in 1987 and 1988. Sprouse was famous for his use of Day-Glo colors, so if I were going to get a vintage Sprouse camo print, I’d probably go for something like this skirt.
But, last week, this ’80s Sprouse on 1stdibs.com caught my eye.

Why? Because Rihanna’s new River Island collection features monochrome camo.
Recently, fashion historian Valerie Steele mentioned to me that camo has been in and out of style since the 1960s, so it’s entertaining but not unexpected to see a similar colorway crop up again. I was much more surprised to discover these circa-1940 shoes. (They’re in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Collection but came to my attention via the blog OMG That Dress!)
Don’t they remind you of the backwards heels shown by Marc Jacobs in 2008?
The more things change, the more they stay the same!

It’s funny that it’s impossible to trace that saying back to the first time it was said — it’s like the human race was born jaded!

This post just reminded me of something that at the time we thought was hysterical (okay still pretty funny), there was a Stephen Sprouse campaign of Motorhead wearing Sprouse! XXX
WendyB says
I’d like to see that!

I wonder if there is video somewhere, as they had video playing in the store. We thought it hysterical but brilliant at the same time! XXX
