After the Newtown, Conn., school shooting, the Facebook page for 170 Million Americans for Public Broadcasting posted a quote from the late children’s television host Fred Rogers.
(Thank you to Andrea García-Vargas for pointing me towards this after the Boston Marathon bombing today.)
I always point this out to people getting very upset about horrible events. The helpers are the first people I see. It is so reassuring to know there are so many people who run toward an event to help.
Absolutely. A good thing to remember.
Very true — many people focus on these tragedies as a loss of humanity, but there is also an outpouring of goodness from humanity. We should all focus on the good.
what a great sentiment in the wake of the Boston tragedy

In other news, I’ve never felt so sick watching televised tragedy. I thank the luckiest of stars that there WERE so many first responders, EMT, firefighters, and other emergency individuals on scene to help.
Stay safe out there people, but try to help when you can.
Yes, this is so true. Many helpers out there. Although it’s a horrible situation, we can be thankful for that.
I love this.
A great reminder during times of tragedy.
He was a smart man, Mister Rogers was.
