The Yelawolf concert/nor’easter on Wednesday kicked my ass. I was knocked out with a bad cold for days. Fortunately, I was able to pull myself together to go to a screening of Silver Linings Playbook last night. Knowing that I had a Stacy Lomman-styled outfit to wear helped me get out of bed.
As I previously wrote, Stacy has been doing some wardrobe therapy for me: going through my closet and putting things together in new ways. Admittedly, neither of us had high hopes for my mini-collection of rainbow-y 1990s Todd Oldham skirts. But, lo and behold, Stacy found something to go with one I got on eBay a few years ago.
What Wendy Wore
Top: Versace (pre-2005)
Skirt: Vintage Todd Oldham (purchased on eBay)
Shoes: Prada (2010)
Necklace: My own Queen of Scots design
I’ve tried this skirt on many times with a standard black top, but I was never happy with the look. I pondered giving up and sending the skirt to a thrift store, but now I’m glad I didn’t. It took Stacy to point out that the “background” color of the skirt print was red, not black. Love the new look — and it was perfect for gorgeous blogger Patti’s Visible Monday post.
If you’re in the New York area and want to book Stacy for wardrobe therapy, contact Cross It Off Your List. She’s so worth it. We’re not even done with my closet and I already have 20 new outfits. If you’re not in the hood, holla at Stacy on Twitter and set up a Skype session.

Girl… I’m so glad you didn’t send this skirt away!
Oooooh, my anti-spam word is TAFFETA! Yay!
You suit all colours – love this outfit!
Stacy is bloody good at this! I would have tried it with black too, but she’s spot on – red is better!Looks great on you.
Aw, that is so nice of you to say!
Thank you!
That skirt is stunning.
This hot red is beautiful on you, and an awesome combination with the skirt. I’m really enjoying the results of your collaboration with Stacy, and glad to hear you’re on the mend!
After decades in my black-based wardrobe, opening the doors to “things that don’t look right with black” (the NERVE!) can feel unsettling, but noticing when I’m not wearing any black at all is freaking me out less.
I love that it’s not just Wendy who is enjoying the results, but also her readers! 🙂
Oh, yes, you and Stacy made it happen. Fab look with the Queen of Scots to top it. Please let me know whenever you send anything to any thrift, anywhere, ever. : > And thanks for linking up to Visible Monday.
That is one fabulous skirt! Quite fabulous with red top and black pumps! Perfect!
It looks so much better in person!
This look is totally awesome. I’ll admit, I’m kind of going What Wouldn’t Go With That!! Hope your closet keeps turning over new looks for you.
Love this outfit! You look great in red! I’ve never thought to book one of these consultants (through sheer laziness really) but your successes with this woman’s advice is giving me pause for thought. I forget about using other colours than black as a base and it’s good to have that pointed out.
I would have done the same thing and used a black top would never have picked up on the red as the background color.
Glad your feeling better BTW you look great you don’t look like you had been in bed sick

Ooh, Stacy is so right – red IS the background colour. I would match this skirt with every colour in it, especially that chartreuse-y green I spy in two of the stripes.
Wendy, it’s awesome to see you looking so radiant in colour!
Wendy looks great in red — it matches her lips!
Yes, that red really works here. Stacy, the wise!
We get wise with age!
Hi Stacy,
New on your page 🙂
I really love the combination of this skirt and this red top. Just perfect!
All the best,
Anne (Playing with Scarves)
Thank you Anne! I’m like a kid in a candy store when it comes to Wendy’s closet!
That red sleeveless blouse with the skirt is really pretty. It’s cool to see that any color in the skirt could be a solid blouse or tank on top.
Who knew! I needed Stacy to enlighten me.
Wendy, with your dark hair red is a perfect color for you. You look stunning in this outfit. Red is the perfect topper for the fab skirt.
