On Monday, I was reminiscing about rock stars who wore red pants in the ’80s. I offered to profile the first person who shared her red-clad assets in imitation of Loverboy‘s Get Lucky album cover.
Sheila from Ephemera came through!
WendyB: When did you start your blog?
Sheila: March 29, 2008 – I just had my 3 year blogoversary!WendyB: What inspired you to start?
Sheila: A friend and former co-worker sent me a link to Kasmira’s blog, What I Wore Today. I read it faithfully for about six months before my friend said, “Why don’t you do a blog? Your outfits are awesome!” So I did.WendyB: What is your blog’s goal?
Sheila: To reinforce my deeply-held personal belief that I AM at the center of the universe. No, really, it doesn’t have a goal. I like doing it, and I like the interaction with my readers and fellow bloggers. I like the small amount of renown that I have – I’ve been recognized on the street twice since I started, and it was a thrill both times.WendyB: Do your family and friends read your blog? Is that ever awkward?
Sheila: My mom is a devoted reader. She calls me to tell me where a piece of jewelry came from (usually something I…er…liberated from her jewelry box back in the ’80s), or to get more of the scoop on some announcement or comment I’ve made. My husband also reads it every morning at work, and my sister-in-law and my aunt both read it. I do watch what I say about my private life and try to stay positive in blog tone. Although I like being open (in a shallow way), I don’t really give away too much about the minutiae of my life.WendyB: Pretend I’m Twitter and describe your style in 140 characters or less.
Sheila: I’m that crazy aunt you always wanted to have, that you hoped would wear something crazy to a family event and will you all her jewelry and shoes when she dies. [I have no idea how many characters that is and I can’t be bothered to count].WendyB: You’ve posted about your great success with Weight Watchers — can you tell me a bit about your weight-loss experience?
Sheila: I am a food addict – I love to eat. Without the support that I get from my WW meetings, I would be right back pushing 200 lbs again, I know it. I still struggle every day to make healthy choices, I grumble about prepping food and making lunches, and I am always tempted to just stop. But I can’t. I often reflect on how far I’ve come – 50 lbs is a lot to lose! – and I’ve learned that if I can keep this weight off (and it’s been nearly four years since I hit my goal) I can do anything I set my mind to. I continue to take it one day at a time.WendyB: How did you feel about taking a Loverboy-worthy photo of your ass?
Sheila: Ha! I hollered to my husband, “I need you to take a picture of my butt!” and then I changed into my red jeans. It was fun! I’m a bit of an exhibitionist (me? Oh, pshaw) so there was no hesitation. My husband likes that I’m a little cuckoo like that.WendyB: What’s your favorite ’80s music?
Sheila: Platinum Blonde! I have been loving them (again) lately. I have their classic album “Standing in the Dark” on vinyl, baby! I originally had that album on cassette tape and wore all the writing off it from playing it so much (you know, turning the cassette over and over). I saw them live in ’85 on tour and they were amazing.
Thanks for playing, Sheila! And nice tush!
