MrB has an extremely loud laugh that has been a movie-theater embarrassment to his family for many years. His son nicknamed him “Mr. Laugh-Head” after one particularly egregious episode. I have many times poked MrB in the side and hissed, “Enough!” “It’s not that funny!” “No one can hear the next line!”
I guess I can’t complain anymore (yes I can, but please play along) because MrB laughed so hard over a lunch at the restaurant Michael’s on Friday that a man came over from another table to find out what was so funny. “I wish I were having as much fun as you guys,” the man said. “I wish my wife were here right now,” MrB replied, “because she’s a big fan of yours.”
The man was Richard Belzer, aka Detective Munch from Law & Order SVU, whom I’ve mentioned in five blog posts:
- Having a Wank
- Keep Your Pants On
- My Mind Is Blown
- What Wendy Wore: Amazing Belzer
- What Wendy Wore: Time Stands Still
Blissfully unaware that by “big fan” MrB really meant “scary stalker,” Richard Belzer said, “Let’s call her up!”
At that moment, I was sitting in my apartment — aka “the place where the AT&T signal goes to die” — feverishly working to get my new website ready for a January launch. My cellphone sat quietly beside me, oblivious to AT&T’s puny signal and, therefore, Richard Belzer’s attempt to reach me. I knew nothing until hours later when MrB called me on the landline to tell me to check my voicemail.
It probably worked out for the best. If the call had come through and I heard Richard Belzer live, I would have fainted/said something idiotic/yelled at MrB for hiring a bad Richard Belzer impersonator. In addition, I wouldn’t have this voicemail to treasure forever.
Click to hear my message from Richard Belzer!
Yep, that’s MrB laughing in the background. See what I mean about that laugh? While writing this, I poked MrB in his side and hissed, “You’re lucky I was able to hear Richard Belzer at all!”
This is so cool! My favorite part was “This is Detective Munch… Inspector Munch in French.”
If only you were there Wendy, but at least he left you a message 🙂
XOXO

“This is… Detective Munch, Inspector Munch in France. Nice talking to you, almost.” 😛
I’m seriously glad I got to hear both MrBelzter and MrB on that voicemail. That was really awesome! 😀
AWWWWWWW that is so cool!!!!
WOW, Mr. B CAN laugh! And that is freaking awesome. I’m a hard core SVU addict….and Homicide for that matter.
Wow, that is so cool. Wish that type of thing happened to me.
Ladidah, indeed! What a neat, wonderful, totally unexpected happening. Wow! Way to go MrB! Way to go, bilingual Munch, alias Richard Belzer!
Now for my own circuitious, poignantLaw & Order moment. Somehow a really lovely-sounding woman found my blog in the past month or so. She’s the widow of Tom O’Rourke, an actor who played three different characters in all four series of the Law & Order franchise. Here’s Mr. O’Rourke’s Bio from IMDB. I feel quite honored that Marcy has now become my blog buddy.
Aww haha, Wendy, this is awesome!! Can’t wait to get to a coputer with speakers to hear the voicemail 🙂
That is awesome! MrB’s laugh was making me giggle. I could hear him better than I could hear Detective Munch.
HAHAHAHAHA! This is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s funny!
I’d be all smiles to have that on my voicemail. Cool, Wendy! Another one to add to the “WendyB and Celebrity” file, not that you’re not a celeb yourself!
Aw, Mr. B loves you! Very sweet!
Hello is this I Love Lucy?
Funny.
That is a great story!!!!!!!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I want to laugh with Mr B. That is the greatest laugh ever. EV-ER!
Hahahah!
Oh Wendy. I heart you.
Thats so great!!! And how nice of Mr.B 🙂
I have the same laughing problem with Mr. ShoeGirl but his sounds more like a 12 year old girl. He gets real high pitched and loud… Oh well, if that’s his biggest flaw I’ll gladly take it.
xox
Holy crap! Amazing! And I think the missed call was for the best. The voicemail means permanent proof!
I love Mr.B’s laugh! What a cute post.
what a fun story! love that he called you. And I love big laughs because they are so infectious! my brother in law has the same laugh and even if I don’t think what we’re watching is funny I end up laughing just because he is laughing!
That’s so cool, Wendy! I have a friend who has one of “those” laughs – everyone in the room turns to look at her.
Holy moly that is so rad! I love Richard Belzer! He is hilarious. Lucky lady!!!
Noooo – I can’t believe you missed your call from Detective Munch! You’re going to save that voice mail forever, aren’t you. 😉
“Nice talking to you, almost” hahahaha This is brilliant!! I love MrB\’s laugh in the background too – it made the voicemail so much cooler!

It’s so much better that you didn’t answer, right??? Now you have the message forever. Love it! Love your darling, Mr. B, for doing that for you. That is LOVE!
You and MrB are so cute. 🙂 Here’s to more close encounters of the Law and Order kind in your future!
And here I thought this was going to be a Dr. Seuss story! This is so much better.
That is really f’ing cool. I can’t listen at work, but can’t wait to get home and hear Mr.B’s laugh, I’m so curious now
