I was most amused by this Tweet from the adorable Miss Couturable — a student at my alma mater, Columbia University — on Friday.
misscouturable Oversized t-shirt + @Danskin leggings today make me feel like I’m channeling @WendyBrandes in her Columbia days.
Miss C was thinking of this post about my college wardrobe.

T-shirt: Hanes
Cardigan and denim jacket: Gap
Leggings: Danskin
Shoes: Aerosole
I demanded photographic evidence, of course.
Nice job, MissC! If only I’d had such spectacular hair. The leggings and big tee look is one of the ’80s styles that I personally have no intention of going back to on a regular basis. I wore it to fashion death back in the day. But I will be putting on something similar just to illustrate a post I have in the works. Stay tuned! In the meantime, you can enjoy this:
UPDATED TO ADD: Gorgeous blogger Jemina decided to go for the look too. Click her picture to read her post.
I can’t help myself. I love me some leggings!
Hear Ye Hear Ye, Wendy’s Style is definitely a CLASSIC, thanks for this, I think I’m going to channel your big tee and leggings soon, perfect for a momma of 2 like me to chase my kids around, just don’t ask me for a photographic evidence 🙂
XOXO
J 🙂
Thanks Wendy for including me 🙂
Much Appreciated

PS: you are the original inspiration, RESPECT!!! 😀
thanks for lovely comm, nice blog of yours! lets follow each other?
Oh G-d the eighties, must be the worst dcade ever in fashion history, I think back at what I wore and cringe:) But you looked so cute.
You can see me in my home in that outfit on most evenings. It is my lounge wear look. Now I know its name, “Retro-Wendy”.
HI!
Thanks for stopping in on my blog 🙂
Totally unrelated to your 80’s revival post above…I LOVE LOVE LOVE your leaf necklaces…and the acorn….I am smitten with fall being a october baby…..collection is gorgeous and so unique. I am slightly obsessed…..I just need an unlimited credit card to buy them all. Future post…hmmmmmm.
Best.
Carly
You know you’ve been reading someone’s blog for a LONG time when you remember former posts highlighting the university years 🙂 Did you see SNL (I think it was last weekend, but all time blends at this point) where they had fake camera auditions for BTTF. One guy pretended to be Alan Alda and I COULD NOT BELIEVE how spot on he was. Didn’t look a damn thing like AA, but it made no difference.
Thank you for my first happy belly laugh of the day!
I’m trying to forget the Eighties and my many (legging-abetted) crimes against fashion… ;0)

blast from the past to the future. . you’re a style icon!
Wow, that girl really does have awesome hair.
I’m so glad that leggings and oversized shirts have made a comeback. We had some terrible fashion in the ’80s but I have to admit to still loving the Flashdance look.
For some reason I never wore leggings in the 80s, but I did have a very similar jean jacket and oversize v-neck sweater that I wore in exactly the same way!
How cute were you!
Oops, still my fave rich hippie look (stuck on Nuyerev & Alexander Godunov forever). No Wolfords please … strictly Danskin ballerina pink and hard black.
Stuck.
So that’s what you looked like during the first years of my earthly existance! I like 🙂 (And I used to wear a turban at the time – my mom would make it for me usuing a white scarf, and looking at my pics back then I can tell I looked good lol)
I love Jemina’s leggings. I want some like that. Have a great weekend xx
ha ha…reminds me of my giant benneton sweater days. i had a huge shopping bag FULL of shoulder pads to install in those babies. you were just as adorable then as you are now! xoxokate
I just love seeing the college you!
Oversized tee and leggings, yep that’s my go-to comfy combination!
Hi there-hurrah for leggings, I’m a fan and everyone looks fab here too!
I am guilty of resurrecting this look. I do it with the same proportions, but I must say: I wouldn’t bother with the giant t-shirt at all but for the fashion “rule” that I must cover my hiney.
I think had I bumped into you in Amsterdam or Paris I would have been the blond version except my denim jacket was a bit shorter. Great look you can’t go wrong in 1988 or 1989!
It’s a no deal until they add a chunky denim jacket too!
I dread the day that leggings go out of fashion again!
While I am a baby in age, and could hardly dress my own self before, say 1993, I am channeling the Wendy B look on many a occasion. I love the slinky leggings paired with an oversized shirt/sweater/whatevs. And I too love Miss C’s hair! Perfect 🙂
