I can’t take my eyes off the Aspre sheath dress from RM by Roland Mouret.
I have two Roland Mouret pieces. The first is a skirt from his original namesake line. He quit designing that line in 2005 due to differences with the company owners, who then retained the rights to his name. That’s the big drawback to having investors. Jil Sander knows all about that. Anyway, when I first saw this skirt with the deconstructed flounce at the bottom, I thought, “That’s very weird and kind of ugly … I love it!”
The last time I wore it, a woman I know said, “That’s an interesting skirt.” I said, “Thank you” before realizing that wasn’t necessarily a compliment. Humph. Well, not everyone has great taste like me.
This summer I got a dress from the newer RM by Roland Mouret line. I call this my “sex-ay military nurse dress.” I don’t have a full length picture, but the dress is longer than knee-length, quite tight and has the kind of neckline that caused a friend’s teenage boys to describe me as “the one with the boobs and lipstick.”

You get the idea.
The construction of both pieces is amazing — his designs really hold you in. Thanks to that, I don’t feel the need to wear a Spank underneath.
Meanwhile, I’ve been dying to know how involved Mouret is in Victoria Beckham’s clothing line. According to Beckham’s reps, Mouret merely introduced her to a few people and then happily congratulated her on her success “designing” clothes that look a hell of a lot like his. If that’s true, he’s stupidly generous. I hope that he’s actually getting tons of money to do her designs on the down-low. That would be a clever way to finance his own line, and I definitely want to see him stay in business. I love his style, but I’m only going to be buying it from Mouret himself, not Posh Spice.
that red dress is to.die.for. love! the skirt is a little too eccentric for my minimalist tastes i’m afraid (looks great on you though) but i could definately steal that military-nurse dress from you! 😉
Your skirt is fabulous, a true style classic!
The red sheath must be yours. I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE that dress.
I love pretty much everything Roland Mouret does. LOVE.
If only I could afford and/or wear his stuff.
I really love that red dress. It’s so fantastic. Especially with those shoes. And I love your dress. Great design on that one.
Love your skirt – and yes that dreadful remark ‘that’s interesting’. One is always compelled to ask in what way.
The sheath dress is bloody amazing! Every thing about VB’s ‘designs’ say Roland and I hope he’s getting a good wage too.
Very interesting how similar his dresses are to VB’s. You look amazing in your dress. I bet your husband wrote you a sweet note on a napkin when he saw you in that number.
Well said!!! I couldn’t agree more – the very idea of Victoria Beckham as a ‘designer’ has me foaming at the mouth.
In answer to your question, ‘RM by Roland Mouret’ was launched in 2007 with the help of Simon Fuller (aka ‘Spice Girls’ impresario) via his ’19 Entertainment’ company. According to press reports at the time (if you can believe the fashion press about anything), Roland Mouret and Simon Fuller are equal partners in the venture. ’19 Entertainment’ also funds Victoria Beckham’s dress and denim lines hence Mouret’s involvement.
My understanding is that Beckham’s dress line is produced by the same factory as Mouret’s and they have the same pattern cutter which may account for the fact that Beckham’s dresses have a deja vu quality to them.

That red dress would look great on you. It’s beautiful. I love the detail. You look AMAZING in the RM “sex-ay military nurse dress.” one. Really stunning! x
thanks for stopping by my blog! rouland mouret is a genius for creating clothes that flatter women’s bodies, i would kill to own a dress of his!
your jewelry is gorgeous, i LOVE LOVE the black skull ring! sparkles and skulls, two of my favourite things!

That red dress is hawt. And having seen the military nurse dress in person, can confirm that it is too! I die.
I. WANT. IT. ALL! You look great!
ahahaha, the one with the boobs and the lipstick! ahahaha! you look fab in it even if you were remembered for something else!
now, i did think at first glance that the RM dress was a victoria beckham…
anti-spam word: bejewel
Haha @ “the one with the boobs and lipstick” You look amazing in his pieces, very sexy yet classy!
Um, he needs to give you a cut because you wear his clothes well! He certainly knows how to dress a woman. His pieces are always sexy-classy.
And that woman who complimented you, she’s a doorknob. You look fabulous and Kiera Knightley wore the dress version to that skirt, and she rocked it too.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE HIS WORK!
<3 hope you’re well love!
I love Mouret more than life itself. That red dress would be beyond perfect on you. Please, for our sakes, buy this dress.
But women don’t want to be seen unpeeling out of a Spank. My dresses are for undressing. We all dress up to undress.”
My kinda guy! ;D
I would do the red dress. It’s not available…but then you can do the impossible WendyB.
Boobs and lipstick – not a bad thing to be known for! 😉
i agree that Beckham’s clothes look a lot like his – but that dress is fab and I’m sure his line will outlast hers in any case
You’ve said what most believe. Beckham should thank Mouret every frigging day.
You must own the red dress. It’s made for you!
Boobs and Red Lipstick…your MO

ah, the dreaded “that’s interesting” remark. some people just don’t ‘get’ the whimisical and witty aspect of fashion! i love the deconstructed ruffle hem – you look great as always 🙂
i hear both RM & VB’s fit amazing.
hehe the interesting comment, i give out that comment myself. it’s really more of an observation….
i the nude RM looks amazing on you
he is a very sexy designer, very lady-like pieces!
Amazing pieces, all of them, but dang, that Aspre sheath is mesmerizing.
I’ll sheepishly admit to being unfamiliar with Mouret’s work … and eagerly admit that I now COVET both your Boobs and Lipstick dress and the Aspre sheath.
i love the red dress. i don’t think i have anything complete red except for a red dior suit. what was i thinking?
Gorgeous dress!
You look lovely 🙂
Ugh! I saw a documentary about JLo “designing” her stupid Sweetface line. They would make everything, then bring it to her and she would point and say “can you change this seam?”
Fuck, you are NOT Karl Lagerfeld! If they knew what went into designing and producing a garment, they would not call themselves designers.
Hi! I think you do the best necklines in the blog world! Love that dress on you.
Great red dress…just bought my first ever all-red dress this week, too!
by the way Miss WendyB, you look totally amazing 🙂
You need to wear Roland Mouret every day. In between the Francis, of course!
That dress would be just stunning on you. Seriously beautiful. The color is sooooo rich. 🙂
I Love Mouret – he is one of my favourite designers – I LOVE your skirt – sexy classic yet creative
LOVE that red dress!! You should get it–it would look great on you.
Boobs and lipstick…there’s a book in that…
That nurse dress is freakin hawt! HAWT I SAY!! That red one is quite nice, as well. Would it compete with the lipstick?
And I commented back on my blog, but I’ll copy is here for you to enjoy:
“WendyB…there is no way in hell. You’re the only serious jewelry maker I’ll spend money with. TRUEFAX!!!
Besides, I’ll never be the Luxirare of jewelry. =D”
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
I’m dying over Mouret’s views on the Spank.
The minute I looked at those first two photos I thought of V Beckham’s new dresses!! I think I prefer Mouret’s! That is a very pretty skirt you have too!
Thank You is always, ALWAYS, the best response to a backhanded/ambiguous compliment. Especially if you know that they don’t mean it as a compliment.
Also? the boobs and the lipstick? consider them coveted.
your skirt and dress are both beautiful and the red number is stunning!
